Man, I wish these threads could stay civil….
If there’s a reason Dana would hate Strickland, it’s because he talk more real than Dana. I have always loved how Dana doesn’t seem to GAF and says what he wants. Strickland goes waaaay over that.
But Sean is an idiot. I don’t think anyone would disagree. Nothing saavy about shitting all over your organization, it’s sponsors and everything else WHILE you are actively trying to make money there. I love Strickland’s candor and I never had the sense to play politics where needed, but I now know better. Play politics or STFU. I would choose the latter if it didn’t involve selling my soul.
I thought the fight was close. It was clear du Plessis adjusted and between his takedowns and aggression, Ihad him only a cunt hair in favor. So did the judges apparently.
But the cynical side of me wonders if he won because, instead of just UFC fans in SA, they now will have a massive following for their champ and in the future.
I don’t think Americans fully understand how other countries make even a single athlete and champ, like it is they themselves that win.
Are there bars that open at 0500 in the USA just so they can watch a single fighter in the UFC? I doubt it. I won’t even stay up or get up for a fight I really want to see.
But my wife stayed up last night to watch a hometown fighter win the belt.
She’s a proud South African.
But she was conflicted now that she’s an American. An African-American.
Man I agree with you, and I was actually having this conversation earlier where I wish these topics would stay on point but of course we get these fucking rejects that just jump in here and start trolling.
I couldn't agree more with everything you said.
I hate Dana but love him at the same time. I Love and admire the fact that the guy does not censor certain things, he supports freedom of speech but on the flip side he's a hypocrite when he censors certain things the fighters say.
But I'll take it, I'll take the amount of character that he does display because there's not many other people that represent companies and organizations the way he does with freedom of speech.
What has me a bit torn is that I believe that the organization wants to get this back onto the African continent, most especially South Africa.
There's a huge audience to win over there, and if people look geographically they have always been trying to target different geographical areas.
People may not realize but there is a lot of developing countries in Africa, there's a lot of money to be made. After all, This is a business at the end of the day, and Dana is a businessman. So people can't put it past him if he's playing stupid that he thought Strickland won, but yet he's not behind at least any shenanigans.
I don't have to always agree with Dana, but I respect him with many things that he does stand for and represent.
Strickland was 100% way more vocal than Dana. There's a few videos I seen where Dana was kind of irritated by Strickland, and these weren't even during major press events.
Strickland does get a bit cringy. But I actually like it.
People say he wasn't champ material. He literally had Izzy on the back pedal the entire fight, someone that isn't a chance material did that to a multi champ.
For someone that isn't champ material, look at his face compared to the new champ..
Maybe, just maybe he isn't ready for the position. But he definitely proved that he's fit for the position, he needs some more things to iron out. But other than that he shocked the world.
That job though, That's something that is not seen often in MMA, if at all.. That jab did everything it was supposed to do..
