Im in the market for a new toy and Ive always wanted a Harley. Ill probably wait until next Spring but Ill be looking at a used Dyna Sport most likely. I haven't been on 2 wheels in over 10 years since my dirtbike days. How does a Harley compare to a 250cc in terms of power. Will it be a big adjustment? Should I start with something else?

I'm not a Harley guy but do ride off road. I can't imagine it being close to a 250.

I own a 2004 Softail, rolling the throttle on if feels very powerful. I believe if you break the motor down from Cubic Inch to Cubic Centimeters, it is 1354CC's, not 100% positive on that. It doesn't have that powerband hit you get from a 2 stroke dirt bike. If I was to buy another bike, it would be a Dyna Low Rider 2003-2017. They just feel really comfortable to ride and have the mid range foot controls so you feel in control of the bike. Just my opinion, I am no expert.

There are a few places around where you can rent Harleys. Might want to try one out for a weekend and see what you think.

Buy in beginning of winter. Way better deals. I’ve ridden a few harleys. Fat boy is where it’s at for me. Been on dirt bikes all my life.. different animal. Only two wheels being the only thing comparable. Love them both. Two wheels is very versatile if your looking to make good time or need to out run the enemy. I prefer forward controls on my bikes (when it comes to street bikes). Test drive before you buy bro.

The new bikes are 107ci and that translates to 1753cc , I hey definitely have some power but you’re not going to lift the front end like a dirt bike .

Yep wheel base, and power to weight ratio being the limiting factors. I have rode many street bikes but never owned, not my thing....I am an off roader at heart, be it 2 or 4 wheels.

Get what you want. If you’ve ridden Dirt bikes before you’ll be fine. I had a Softail custom and Mrs. AR had a 883. She’s only 4’7” and around 85lbs. It took her a bit and a few adjustments but she handled it just fine. If you buy something smaller then once you get used to it your gonna want the bigger one anyway. Just my opinion though. Good luck and enjoy.

Everybody hates their first starter bike in 6 mths...

Sold. My fxdb
Dyna Street Bob. That was 1600cc engine. Big difference. Great bike. But even with the rubber motor mounts... My rear fender rattled so. Hard. It split. Had it replaced
Split again. That was the 96 cubic inch engine.
Then they came out with the 120 if I'm not mistaken.

I ride a 2015 street Bob it's a very comfortable bike on long rides. Look around test out different bikes and find 1 that fits you won't regret the purchase . Enjoy the ride

Street glides are my favorite , they have a fairing to help keep rain and cold air off of you and also hard bags to keep extra clothes like a rain gear or other junk .

That's a nice bike .I guess I'm just old but I like the wind in my face and no bags for me I just roll up a saddle blanket with a change of clothes inside. Kinda like a suitcase and a pillow all in one

I’m the same way. I rarely go on long trips anymore anyway. All I got is a handlebar bag. Carry my work lunch in a back pack. Got half shots on it. I love the raw bike look.

I love the fat boy softails ... fun to scoot around on. You can put fairings on them but I just wear a full face to combat bugs lol

Dude was telling me about this seriously hooked up helmets this one company is selling. Can’t remember the name but it’s got wi fi , gps , speakers, blue tooth and a digital interface layout on the visor. Like 2k but sounds cool.

I've been looking at fat boys and a few road kings lately. I dig the fuck out of the Chicano style road kings if they're not overdone.

I've heard from some friends that they are comfortable, I just don't think I would like the big ape hanger handle bars

Yea. Shoulder height is all I'd want. Comfort and more style than the stock handlebars. That's why I say not overdone. Pipes two feet past the back tire, humongous front wheel and handlebars over your head look ridiculous.

Been a Harley guy my whole life. Here are the twins (born 40 years apart) :-) Once you ride a Harley you will be hooked.

I was brought up on dirt bikes on MotoX tracks.... Harley's and dirt bikes are nothing alike, but if you can rip it up on a dirt bike you can handle a Harley. Like someone mentioned above... Harley's are "measured" in Cubic Inches rather than cubic centimetres like our old dirt bikes were. Mine is a 103 CI Softail Breakout. All I've done as far as performance work is put a stage-1 kit with Vance & Hines exhaust....And believe me, it's got plenty of power! The three pics tell the story of my customization. One pic is stock, exactly how I bought it... the next pic is when I replaced the handle bars only.... Then finally the stretched tank, chopped rear fender, airbrush paint, and chrome jewelry everywhere. Go buy a Harley and hit the pavement brother!

Nice. I like the drag bars. With the way the breakout is stretched, do the drag bars seem to pull you into a forward position?

Short fenders both ends ,single set of pegs single seat . No passengers. The bike is as stripped down as I could get it no chrome less cleaning more riding
Fuck yea man. I wanted to cut past my struts and expose the rear tire. But the old lady... Ugh.

I don't let my wife ride with me, she wouldn't ride when I had a sportster so when I got the bigger bike I ordered it with just the single seat

My wife got on my bike 4 times this summer. She has never rode with me before. No sissy bars or back rest just a tiny little extension of the seat for her lol. I’m trying to bait her into being okay with an upgrade (not working so far). But I don’t think I’ll ever buy one of them Cadillac looking passenger touring bikes. Still like the raw bike look.
