As cliche as this may sound, I literally have nothing better to do other than go to the gym and train. I work all day and then the gym is the high light of my day, as well as going out with my girl on the weekends. I always train early in the morning on Saturday and Sunday to get on with the rest of my day. However, I literally have not taken one day off the gym in over a year and a half, I’m talking straight 7 days a week consistently. Everyone I run into tells me that this is not good and muscles will not recover or grow due to no rest. My sleep schedule is also fucked and I literally get like 5-6 hours of sleep a day max, so if you guys have anything to solve this sleeping problem let me know. Also let me know what you guys think about rest days and give me some input on what your schedules look like. As always, stay un natty my friends

Andrew Huberman lays out a solid plan for sleep protocols. Worth checking out.
I’ve been running PPL, three days on, one off, for the last eight months. I do one deload week every 12 weeks. Puts me right on the edge of being overtrained. Although with the better weather coming I’m trying to think of a less time consuming regimen. More time in the sun and less in the gym. But I struggle to get the volume I require on anything less than six days a week.

Thank you for that, I’ll definitely check it out

Absolutely rest days are necessary especially when you get older. I’ve always had 2 days rest a week. As I’ve gotten older and have maintained a physical construction job for the last 23 years my workout days now are Tues, Wed, Sat, Sun. So I’m getting 3 days rest a week now and continue making progress. Around 3 times a year especially mid summer I take 9-11 days off from the gym. I loose fullness around day 5 but when I get back in the gym I’m full again and if not bigger! And soreness is gone and appetite is down to.

You are leaving lots of progress, gains etc on the table by not taking rest days.
I used to never take rest days and it would always eventually lead to some type of injury or setback.

I now run a push, pull, legs, off schedule.
Rarely I will lift 4 days in a row, if I do it’s always followed by a rest day. If you are training hard enough I would imagine rest days are necessary in my opinion.

You don't grow in the Gym..!!
Without proper Nutrition and Recovery..it's a wash..!!
And Recovery isn't just sleep..
I posted a Thread awhile back about Recovery Protocols..
I train Sat..Sun..Tues..Thur..
Saturday and Sunday..Heavy.!!
Monday and Tuesday..Higher reps and different exercises or angles..slow negs..

Rest Days are as Important as Gym Days...

If people don't take rest days, they risk the potential of ending up in the hospital really sick and banged up.. I'm not joking!
When I'm on program, I look forward to my rest days.

If I feel like I don’t need a rest day, I’ll do cardio and abs at the gym. Nowadays, I train so hard I absolutely need all the rest days I can get. Sometimes, even more than I plan on. Listen to your body. Rest = growth.

I’ve done it with and without rest days. Adjusting training volume to accommodate days out of the gym or in the gym. Made progress both ways.

Need them rest days, but I also understand feeling drawn to the gym. But if I'm training hard enough I will need to take them. Sleep is hard bro. I'm up multiple times to piss no matter what. Sucks
I am with you in this, the insonmia is a bitch, and when you train hard you always have a muscle or joint that will bother you. So, although I would love lift every day, it simply makes no sense and you will not progress.

I also wake up a lot to piss, so I don't drink water the last hours of the day, and my casein shake, well, it is no longer a shake, I simply put the dust in my mouth and eat it, Lol.

Some powders can be addictive, believe me, especially when you are on cuting, it's like a kind of substitute for flours and bread, and feel good because you don't eat carbohydrates, lol.

Pure caseina is not very nice, but vanilla flavors, for example, are.

Whey protein, I don't care if it is whey or isolated, neutral flavor or not, I will eat it with great pleasure, Lol

In my working years training was the highlight of my day for the most part and i lifted at least 5-6 days a week. and would ski, hike, or climb on days i wasn't at the gym. and grew and recovered well while doing that. Now that i am retired i have more time but am older so i try to take a rest day here and there. My blood pressure was up some this morning so i figure i may need a day off to rest, I also use resting heart rate in the morning to decide is i am recovered....... course it could be up as i had to deal with my lawyer about a matter as well this morning. But a day off is probably not a bad thing.

two days a week I work 12 hours so no lifting, still get up and do some fasted cardio. Lift four days a week and one dedicated cardio day for sprint intervals on air bike and walking to cool down. Try a consistent night routine, find a low key easy show to watch if TV is part of the night. Create a nice sleep stack of supplements, I like 100mg melatonin, 600mg mag glycinate, 4.5 grams glycine powder and 200mg L-theanine. Consistency is key with nightime routines.

When bulking I used take 2-4 days off usually - no cardio, no sports , just eating and sleeping around age 17-21 . Then as I kept training and blasting it became apparent I needed more time in the gym and always trained 5 or 6 days per week , then I went back to 5x5 or 4 day upper lowers splits , all kinds of stuff .

During a cut , I have zero (totally off) days . Two 45min sessions of cardio 7 days a week. During a bulk (now, not always back then) I did Cardio 6 days a week For sure . Now I do it 6-7 Days a week . It’s part of my waking up process .

I’ve taken a week to 10 days off and it was truly hard AF ! I wanted to lift but, my papa & coaches watched me so I could not . Plus I was on vacation and I gained weight when I started back and did my heaviest Bench after a warm up . So weird to remember all the stuff I’ve done just to be competitive with my own family/Siblings and cousins . Everyone had something they were good at … mine was “knowing about food and training “ .

I try not to take days off. Days off from lifting? Yes. Only 1-2 days per week, and I use those days for Abs and cardio. True, real, rest days where I don't do anything fitness related? Are we mice or are we men?!

I personally do take the a rest day. I won’t even do abs and cardio. I think the rest day has been underestimated recently. Every thing is all grind 24/7 now and that’s just not sustainable long term.

I love lifting as much as the next person. When I’m not lifting, I’m educating myself on lifting. The name of the game is to apply a stimulus, recover and adapt. Without a rest day, you’re not leaving much for adaptation, it’s a constant battle for your body to just recover.
