off the rack suits...any brand favorites for wide shoulders-tiny waists?

don't give me any crap about hand tailored suits. Its way out of budget
some tailoring of a OTR suit is fine

also, super wools (like 150s)...worth the money?

I buy knock offs at a local place. Spend $600 instead of $1600.

For wool quality, I personally dont go below 140's wool. The higher the number, the lighter the suit and generally the more sheen it has. However, they are also more fragile, so for daily wear you have to balance the two out (looks vs durability).

his suits won't see daily wear...thank you for the super wools info

he'll have to buy a couple sizes too big and get an athletic cut style. That's really all you can do with off the rack suits.

just wondering if some brands are better than others in anyone's experience

the slim fits look awesome in the shoulders and waist a size too big but the arms are really too tight so I think he's going to have to get a traditional cut....

a lot of the italian knockoffs look pretty decent..full canvas fronts at least

You might also want to check out custom made, b/c by the time the shoulders, neckline/cut, waist, sleeves, pants (waist, seat, legs, break, etc) all tailored, it might be about the same price.

theres a pretty kick ass tailor here locally who will hit it all for right around 100 bucks

and do it quickly

OK cool then. My tailor gives me a discount b/c I buy 10suits a year for work.

yeah thats excellent....

if there was time and $$ for a truly custom made suit i'd happily drop the cash

there just isn't tho.

I saw some nice weight wool brooks brothers suits at a discount place for 300 ea.

stitched to be tailored ..ie, not finished in critical places

any thoughts on them as an OTR suit?

I haven't been to a BB in at least 15yrs, so no clue. Incan go tomorrow and see what they got

sure..if you're willing to

I haven't helped purchase a suit in quite a few years myself so it took a little googling for a fit refresher

I went by there yesterday. Not horrible, but not Zegna either. Maybe I'm just a snob w/suits now... <shrug>

For $300, they aren't bad, but I didn't see too many high quality wools... Lots of 100's and 120's.

Thanks for checking em out. I hadn't actually seen any at BB for that price..saw some at a clearance store for that price.

Kholes had what I needed I got everything plus tie and tie bar and cuff links for 190$ and it looks good. Hope I get the job.

Van housen was the brand.
