I know..right love real grits..I'm try that smoked gouda real soon in itI ate some yesterday for Brekkie ! I use the Carolina White Corn Grits , totally plain (rinse a few times )and bring to a boil , adding water if needed 2cups dry grits /6 cups water at first. Cook 36-40min total but at the last 1-2min
I stir in Natural Applewood Smoked Gouda(real cheese, not pasteurized) Cut into small cubes, w a 1/4 cup of Heavy Cream . That’s the trick. A bit of water if you need a certain thickness or thin it. It comes out sooo delicious that I could just chug it out of the bowl . Salt & Ground Black pepper of course. I totally hear you on the “grits” thing . Most kids on the West Coast had Cream of Rice , Cream O Wheat , or just Oatmeal . I forgot how much I love grits ! Definitely not Jiffy Corn meal
