Haha I agree It is easy to convince yourself it's ok to eat something not so good when your bulking.as former fat guy, I think lean bulking/eating whole foods is the way to go.
im pretty strict on my macros personally, but i dont think theres anything wrong for most with fatty steaks and stuff like that while growing.
I think some people just use it as an excuse to eat like assholes because some random genetic freak did or does and it worked for them.
most of us arent that lucky or genetically gifted.
High quality lean whole foods always. From my personal experience- equal amount of calories and macros etc from junk foods- sluggish, lethargic, and lacking in performance. On the other hand- equal amount of calories from lean Whole Foods- my performance is so much better, look better, and overall sense of well being. What do you choose and which do you feel packs on more tissue. So many people I know say you need to be in a crazy surplus to pack on serious size, and the quality of food isn't as important.. I do not agree. I'm curious what everyone else thinks. Which do you do and why.
Once a bunch of the young folk saw Sam Sulek chuggin gallons of chocolate milk and crushin half a dozen donuts for PWO they wondered why they got fat as fuck. Dudes genetics were on a whole different level, and of course… slin and grams of gear hahaas former fat guy, I think lean bulking/eating whole foods is the way to go.

Hot damn- can’t believe I didn’t list that. Probably the biggest pro of them all- the benefits towards lipids, and blood pressure.Excessive caloric surpluses do not proportionally increase muscle gain. Even if it was true that dirty bulking puts on a little more muscle, it's not worth the time wasted shedding all the excess fat off. You could have used that time to continue to progress. Plus, for simple health reasons, micronutrients are important along with keeping cholesterol, blood pressure, etc in check.
Yes, some dudes can eat whatever they want and make great progress but are few and far between. I wish I was one of them. lol
Rich…great question and I think it’s highly specific to each person. I think some of this depends on one’s daily activities and how they handle and manage calories throughout the day. I can get by with eating mostly clean with a side of trash per day while others can’t. My genetics and metabolism with a consistently high Test level put my body in a calorie burning mode throughout the day. Thus, I’m always in a lean bulk. I’m 5’11 215 and this is where I stay…I don’t want to build anymore muscle nor do I want to lose any. Being in this game for around 30 or so years, I’m learned so much through trial and error that I know how my body will react to calories whether it be a surplus or deficit. I’m simply trying to maintain. Back to your point, I will most assuredly say that if you each mostly trash everyday then you will ultimately get trash results or will not get to your potential….though there are outliers. What do you choose and which do you feel packs on more tissue.
