Do you know your shit?

I'm being serious.

It's not uncommon for people to neglect their gut health, and literally not knowing their shit.
In fact, this conversation is rarely ever brought up in bodybuilding.

For myself, I take my gut health extremely serious. Not only due to sensitivities, but the immense health benefits that come with it, with every aspect in life.

For those of you that take your gut health serious, just curious to see what supplements you guys are taking, what protocols and measures you have implemented in your life, that structured into your diet and so on.

For those of you that don't do any of the above, stick around, this is the topic that you don't want to miss out on.

Know your shit!

This is the shittiest thread on the forum, but a very important one. You gotta have this to go with it though.

This is the shittiest thread ever, it's probably going to stink with a lot of feedback.
But the more we know, the better the flow. 🔥🔥🙌

Really don’t have shit to say about this ! But….if you take an iron supplement,it’ll look black, yep I take an iron supplement and it happens fast.

My favorite is when my poop smells exactly like the meal I ate the day before tasted, and I start salivating while still on the toilet seat. Literally just happened yesterday.

What does having a Phantom poop say about digestive health? Occasionally I will poop, I know there was a poop, I can feel a poop, but then there is nothing in the bowl. Almost like It was never there. I call it a "Phantom Turd" but I'm not sure what it means about my digestive health.

Eating a proper diet in which you exclude foods that you have trouble digesting is the best way to go IMO. All of the probiotic's and such are often a waste and can cause even more issues. AJ Sims aka cement factory is awesome on gut health with a lot of good info.

Just some small things to consider -

Why are Probiotics and Prebiotics Crucial in Bodybuilding?

Protein and Nutrient Absorption:

Probiotics, the beneficial gut bacteria, and prebiotics, the specialized fibers that feed them, are essential in bodybuilding.

They ensure the effective absorption of high-protein diets, reduce gut inflammation caused by intense training, and speed up muscle recovery.

Enhanced Amino Acid Availability: Bodybuilders intake large quantities of protein. An optimal gut microbiome aids in breaking down these proteins, increasing the circulating branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) crucial for muscle growth.

Optimized Fuel Utilization: Prebiotics ferment into short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) within the gut, enhancing carbohydrate metabolism and improving glycogen storage for more powerful lifts.

Recovery and Immune Support: Reduced Inflammation - Intense resistance training results in micro-tears in muscles and physical stress that can lead to systemic and gut inflammation. Probiotics help decrease inflammatory markers, enabling quicker recovery between tough sessions.

Preventing Gastrointestinal Distress:
The high-calorie bulking diets, protein supplements, and frequent pre-workout concoctions can upset digestion. Probiotics fortify the intestinal barrier, preventing issues such as bloating, cramping, and permeability.

This can actually be induced by the adrenal system, sometimes if we get over excited about something, certain situations or a specific instance can induce this.
Which in many cases, there can be something that unbeknownst to us is triggering some sort of excitement, that will lead to a secretion with adrenal hormones, in some cases people will experience this in the morning, then they don't have to go anymore, they grab their keys and take off and the phantom shit comes back again. That's because in the morning are fighting flight hormones are getting dumped, literally.

You can get prebiotics from foods and probiotics.

Cottage cheese yogurt

Onions garlic oats wheat bran oats barley
Bananas watermleon apples lentils chia seeds chick peas

If youre following a standard bodybuilding diet with whole foods youre probably getting most of them naturally.

Invisible poop. It’s a thing.

No doubt people with REAL issues can benefit. The problem I see is people will try to cover up an easy solvable digestion problem whether it be food source, timing, volume, whatever with probiotics. It doesn't solve the problem and can sometimes make a negative impact. I've seen guys/girls hop on them and get new issues that weren't there before. So, if you need them, awesome. If you don't, then don't take them for the sake of doing so like prevention.

I also highly recommend Digestive Enzymes, in some cases, over Probiotics which serve a completely different function. When I came off of a long term diet and increased to a heavy carb load, my digestive system couldnt handle the new load. Taking digestive enzymes before each meal were a game changer.

Usually in the case with GLP1s or coming off of GLP1s, the enzymes are more effective to help normalize digestion again than laxatives are.

Bingo bango, so many of these all serve different purposes. 🤙🤙

Fermented foods mentioned provide beneficial microbes you gut uses. They are just 'biotics.' They come, live for a week or so, then go.

Mentioned are onions, garlic, and other foods. They provide fibers your gut microbes feed on.

One of the best from what I've heard....

Gut health is as fundamental as sleep and diet. It is not discussed much and has huge implications. They estimate over 50% of the population has small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). After studying this for several years, I am convinced many health issues in our society stem from terrible gut health. These include the growth of autoimmune disorders and dementia decline (aka type 3 diabetes).

Why? The widespread use of antibiotics over the last 60 years has wiped out a lot of fundamental microbes we all used to carry. AB's are great, live saving even. Take them if you need them. Unfortunately, no one teaches us = "after the ABs, you need to restore you system. take these prebiotics and eat these foods for the next 6 weeks."

The good news, we can restore the microbes and get back on track. Its low cost, effective, and a life skill that will pay strong dividends as you train and age. You have more microbes in your body than cells. Microbes are doing the work. Digestion, release of nutrients, defending against pathogens, producing the base chemicals and enzymes like hormones, butyrate, and keeping pH on target around the body.

Fermented foods I use: Kefir, kefir juice drinks, homemade sour cream, fermented yogurts (Lactobacillus reuteri based, bifido bacteria based, others) with 10x the microbes of store bought, fermented cabbages & other veggies.

Daily pre-biotic fiber intake includes HMOs, red berry phenols, garlic, green tea powder, freeze dried beef organ complex, amazing greens.

Stellar information.

This has me wondering, with all of the antibiotics that they give the animals that we eat, even when they say antibiotic free all of this bullshit.

What health implications do they have?
What is this food that we eat, and that we assume is healthy, with a lot of the hidden processes. Hmmmm..

100%, each and every single human being "should" be getting proper gut health from the foods that we consume like @Meetketchup has emphasized.
