Active learning. If you want to change something in your life that you know you want to change. Do this.

Stand in front of the mirror. Look at the reflection back looking at you. Ask yourself honest questions like. What would my life look like if I quit? What will my opinion of myself be if I give up? How much better will things be when I win, accomplish, stand victorious for me and the people who surround me. You NEED to be honest with yourself. If you're not NOTHING will ever change for you. It's difficult at first but a skill one must master.

Day 39 is over and done with. The heated gloves worked for my outside workout. My hands got sweaty a bit. I had to shoehorn them on though which isn't great. But they did their job. Another day in the books

Day 40... Currently in the middle of my leg workout. Update that I didn't post before now. I have upped my test to 500 mgs a wk split into 2 shots. Started that 2 weeks ago. With the volume I'm putting in I figured to maximize the efforts I would do a "cycle". I know 500 isn't much to some but I was completely off for a year recently so for me it is.

“Never let people who choose the path of least resistance steer you away from your chosen path of most resistance.”

“It’s so easy to be great nowadays because everyone else is weak.”

“The reason it’s important to push hardest when you want to quit the most is because it helps you callous your mind. It’s the same reason why you have to do your best work when you are the least motivated. That’s why I loved PT in BUD/S and why I still love it today. Physical challenges strengthen my mind so I’m ready for whatever life throws at me, and it will do the same for you.” – David Goggins

Day 41 is here. Chest workout in progress. The next few days should be interesting. Supposedly 20-24 inches of snow is going to fall by Wednesday. Will make things interesting. I hope everyone wins their day..

YOU ARE THE COMMON DENOMINATOR
March 11, 2023 AndyGram

Everything in your life is your responsibility.

It doesn't matter whether you think it’s your fault or not.

YOU are the common denominator in every single situation.

This includes the good, the bad, and the ugly.

When you start to adopt this mindset in your life...

You'll begin to see just how much shit you've been leaving up to "chance" and "circumstance.”

Start taking ownership of everything.

That's when things will start to change for you.

Get Shredded!
Day 41 is finished. Had a great chest/tricep workout. The heated gloves I bought I can't fit my wide hands and bigger forearms in. So that's unfortunate with the typical not pleasant weather here. Making progress thru the Benjamin Franklin book which will take a bit. It's a thick meaty book lol. A fascinating person he was. Pure genius way ahead of his time. I hope everyone had a fantastic winning day

NEVER QUIT ON YOURSELF
March 13, 2023 AndyGram.

I believe this Powerful message for all. How often do we do this to ourselves??? Now back to Andy..

My dream growing up was to play in the NFL.

In fact, I still keep an NFL football in my gym bag every day.

Not because I still want to play in the NFL...

But to remind me of something…

Because while that was my dream…

I never truly believed in my ability to be a professional athlete.

I didn't understand the work that was required.

I was soft.

So I quit chasing that dream.

This is something that haunted me for a long time ... to the point of having nightmares about it.

So why do I carry a football with me?

To serve as a reminder to never fucking quit.

NEVER.

No matter how hard shit gets...

No matter what obstacles present themselves...

No matter the pain I have to endure...

I will never quit on myself again.

Neither should you.

I purchased a used copy of this book off eBay today. It will be my next up reading after I finish the Benjamin Franklin book. I'm drawn to navy seal books on overcoming adversity, challenges, to do what we think limits us. Jocko, Goggins, Gleeson and soon Redman. I find these books as the foundation of mental toughness applied to my life.

DO THIS WHEN YOU FEEL STRESSED…
March 14, 2023 AndyGram

We've all met people who talk about how "stressed out" they are.

There have been plenty of times in my life when I've felt the exact same.

But every single time I've ever felt stressed...

It's because I wasn't focused on pouring my effort and energy into the things that I can control.

If you feel stressed...

You need to take inventory of everything in your life you CAN control...

...and quit spending time or energy on the shit you CAN'T control.

You can control your health...

You can control your habits...

You can control your effort...

You can control your attitude...

You can control your discipline...

...and when you actively work on these things...

Your stress and anxiety will quickly begin to disappear.

On the other hand, if you spend your time worrying about other people...

The conditions you're presented with...

The challenges and roadblocks that are ahead…

Or anything else that's outside of your control...

How can you be surprised when your life feels so stressful and chaotic?

Start focusing on what you can control...

Take action...

...and watch as everything starts to change for you.

You aren't "stressed out"...

You just aren't exercising enough control.

Day 43.... Execute, Win, Dominate the day today.

Remember, regardless of the overwhelming opposition or adversity in your path, you always have the opportunity to overcome. It is your attitude that will determine the outcome. Jason Redman

LEARN TO MASTER THE MUNDANE
March 15, 2023 AndyGram
When most people set out to do something new...

...whether that's an opportunity, lifestyle change, or anything else for that matter...

At first … it's easy for them to stay motivated.

But what happens when a few weeks pass by?

What happens when a few months pass by?

What happens when that initial motivation and excitement begins to fade?

They start to lose the drive and urgency they had when they began…

They start to let their foot off the gas and let the little details slip...

Then they decide it "wasn't for them" only to move on to the next thing and repeat the same shit again and again.

If you truly want to make a change and stay committed long-term...

You have to show up and execute with the same level of urgency and attention to detail every single day ... whether you're excited to do it or not.

This is a concept I call "Mastering the Mundane."

When you learn to develop this skill...

Nothing can stop you from winning.

But if you start to let your foot off the gas when the excitement begins to die...

You’ll be running around in circles for the rest of your life.

Don't let that be the case.

Brent Glesson

The following sayings are derived from our philosophy and the Navy SEAL Ethos. They define our culture and how we approach life and work.

1. The only easy day was yesterday. There really are not truly “easy” days for individuals and organizations seeking an existence of excellence. Excellence can be defined as the constant pursuit of perfection – something that is impossible to achieve. Our lives and careers are full of challenges. We simply have to face those challenges head on, controlling what we can and ignoring what we can’t.

2. It pays to be a winner. During SEAL training, the class is broken into boat crews – seven-man teams. We often compete against the other crews which encourages leadership, teamwork and accountability. The instructors would shout, “It pays to be a winner gentlemen!” Winning boat crews would sometimes be allowed to sit out during the following evolution to get some rest. When leaders make engagement and accountability and cultural priority, winning results are sure to follow.

3. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. You learn on day one of training to get comfortable being uncomfortable. When individuals and teams push the boundaries of their comfort zone on a regular basis, the wider that area becomes. And in my experience, it’s outside the comfort zone where the magic really happens. When you practice this philosophy with discipline, things that used to be seemingly impossible can become part of your everyday life.

4. I persevere and thrive in adversity. One of my favorite quotes is by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and says, “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” This quote carried me through SEAL Hell Week. When organizations can ingrain resilience into their culture, they too will thrive in adversity and crush the competition.

5. In the absence of orders I will take charge, lead my team and accomplish the mission. In the Teams, we expect leadership at all levels. We operate with agility in a decentralized command model. Everyone is expected to both lead and be led. The most successful organizations today are adopting a similar model – doing away with old hierarchies and replacing them with networks and ecosystems of truly empowered teams. Which in turn improves engagement and retention.

6. Uncompromising integrity is my standard. Integrity and trust have a direct and measurable impact on productivity and profitability. And like anything else, it starts at the top. But regardless of rank, title or tenure, this is a lead by example model and must happen on and off the battlefield. Organizations with high levels of integrity experience better employee and customer retention – which of course positively impacts the bottom line!

7. We demand discipline. We expect innovation. Organizations today are faced with almost constant change, forcing them to attempt to grow faster with fewer resources and face challenges they have never experienced – hence the need for creativity and innovation. The “this is the way we’ve always done it” mindset no longer applies. Unless of course you’re a fifty-year-old BBQ joint in Nashville – then you should never change! Leading change successfully requires discipline and innovation. Focus and follow-through are critical.

8. Embrace the pain. This one is my favorite. This is the ONLY mindset that gets you through SEAL training. Those that maintained a positive mental attitude through the worst parts of training, were the ones standing tall at graduation. We face more challenges in business than we ever have before. And as my friend Quinn (Deputy CEO of Optos) says, “Organizational change is pain plus a plan.”

9. I am never out of the fight. I believe in this life philosophy so much that I have it tattooed on my arm in Latin. It needs no interpretation.

If any of these philosophies inspire you, I encourage you to share them with your team. Now go get after it!

Day 36-49... Alignment, Automation and Anticipation.

Alignment will contribute to the peace that you began to experience in the flow state phase. Because there is no gap between what you want and what you're willing to work for, you'll feel more whole. Because you are no longer lying to yourself and making excuses for your weakness and failures, you'll feel like an honest, authentic person. Because you are genuinely committed to becoming your best self, you will naturally become a leader of others, motivate them to become better, and by extension make the world a better place. So you'll feel like a good person too.

QUIT MAKING YOUR STRUGGLES YOUR IDENTITY
March 16, 2023 AndyGram
Stop wallowing.

We get it ... life fucked you.

Well guess what? Life fucks all of us from time to time.

That's life.

There is no special prize for who has it the hardest...

All the special prizes are reserved for those who overcome their hardships.

Quit making your struggles your identity...

Because there is zero nobility in perpetual victimhood.

Zero.

However, there is tremendous nobility in inspiring others through your example of overcoming.

So tell your sad story...

Just make sure it's followed up by how you overcame it or are working to overcome it.

Your life story matters a lot.

Other people will win in life because of you and your amazing story of all the hard shit you overcame...

So make your story one of triumph...

Not one of defeat.
