Re: Significant hair loss.
You may want to address that BEFORE starting a cycle (since the first poster ask in regards to a beginners typical dosage, I'm making the assumption you would fall into that category to).
In case anyone’s interested, hair loss can be exacerbated by a test cycle because any free test (not bond by SHBG in the blood stream) can be converted by certain tissues—in this cause skin tissue in the scalp—to DHT via an enzyme produced in the Sebaceous gland (which are located right next to your hair follicles—annoying that!) called 5a- reductase. This gland plays a critical role in acne as well, and some have used Finasteride to address this issue with varying levels of success.
DHT significantly more potent that test at the AR—which is why DHT derived steroid can be so great at strength (and aggression) gains. It’s at about the 16 week mark in pregnancy that a male fetus will start producing large amount of DHT, which changes the physical characteristics of the fetus from female (how we all start) to male. Crazy stuff this DHT!
But what’s relevant to your hair line is the DHT also reacts with the hair folic itself, its causes it to shrink—miniaturizes as doctors call it—which makes you grow what looks like baby fuzz instead of hair. And indeed, considering the prenatal role of DHT, it IS baby hair!
So we’re trying to reduce the amount of test to DHT conversion by disabling the 5a pathway (5a is made in other glands beside the skin—but for now…). Products like finasteride (what I have always used--here a sight that discusses some of the side effects
http://www.raysahelian.com/finasteride.html). A typical does of Propecia is 1 mg daily, however I don’t know what the does would be if serum levels of test were to reach many times higher than normal (as would be the case for someone on a cycle). It may be a simple progression; i.e. twice as much serum test, twice as much Propecia). But I don’t know. I have a little balding, so I often use 1mg during a cycle (but I’ve also not use it—and no hair loss). I have noticed it delays the onset of acne, but never stops it completely.
So, unless someone can chime in with how to tincture your dosage regarding serum test levels (though I suspect only free T levels would matter) . I’d address the issue before going on cycle—and continue treatment while on.
Just my 2 cents
