Wasn’t Mike Tyson sort of washed up and barely trying when he retired? That seems to be my recollection, though I could be misremembering. If so, he seems to really be putting in the effort now.Everyone thinks Mike is the same 20 year old champ he once was lol he wasn’t even that good when he retired
Yes, he was washed up 20 years ago yet somehow everyone lives this fantasy of him being what he was 30+ years ago. I personally like Mike a lot, the rape thing I never really looked into the case all I know is he did his time and his career pretty much went to shit afterwards, but I think people like him a lot either because of the person he used to be a killer in the ring and overall savage or moreover for the person he became later in a life. I rather people idolize a man that was at the top, fucked up like a lot of us do especially in our younger years although I’m not condoning rape or anything, suffered the consequences of his way of life, was robbed and exploited, lost everything and came back a humble wiser old warrior than all these social media personalities that are useless pos’s that simply made it because society is brain dead. As far as boxing and the Jake Paul fight, it’s a check and hopefully a good boost for him, I remember towards the end his career when he didn’t have it anymore he was getting beat by low level opponents only doing it because he needed the money. I don’t care for Jake, but boxing is young man’s sport.Wasn’t Mike Tyson sort of washed up and barely trying when he retired? That seems to be my recollection, though I could be misremembering. I agree that Jake Paul isn’t a particularly likable opponent and deserves to get his mouth bloodied, but I do sometimes wonder why Tyson gets a pass for his history. The guy was convicted of rape, yet he’s basically America’s crazy uncle. Meanwhile, Louis CK pounded his pud in front of some people and he’s basically a pariah.
Not saying Tyson should be “canceled” retroactively, as he’s served his time, but it does seem kinda strange….
They really put the Instagram followers? Wtf..

The fight will be contested over eight two-minute rounds, with 14-ounce gloves and sanctioned as a professional bout by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.
In case anyone was wondering.... WBF and other organizations use 10oz gloves for their heavyweight fights. So these gloves will be thicker and heavier than normal. Probably to protect there hands better.
Oh yeah Mike was cooked at the time I believe he wasn’t even training for those fights anymore just going in and fighting. We’re also comparing him against professional boxers which Jake is not. But it’s been almost 20 years since he retired. He looked good imo for his age vs Roy jones jr, but then again Roy had no business being in there and did absolutely nothing and mike still couldn’t stop him.If he was washed up 20 years ago. It was probly related to the massive drug problem and loss of a child. I could be wrong. But I'm sure that shit destroyed him.we don't remember his name cause he was a no body. He made a dent in the sport and he's being challenged at a weakened state because he was once considered a force not to be fucked with.

Exactly, exhibition settings to me.Basically the heavier the glove the more padding there is. So yes it not only protects their hands it also protects their heads from hard hits.
14oz gloves are generally used by normal to larger size dudes for sparring and training. They are also bigger in size which makes punches harder to get through. I’ll never understand how this can be considered a professional bout.
I always appreciate your insight. I read somewhere Tyson used 18oz gloves in sparring the majority of the time. I'm assuming there is a speed transfer when going to the smaller lighter gloves...Basically the heavier the glove the more padding there is. My thinking is that maybe he’s now got something to prove which will give him a leg up, whereas 20 years ago he was just trying to milk it for money. But maybe that’s just wishful thinking as I’m rapidly hurtling toward old age myself, hahaYes, he was washed up 20 years ago yet somehow everyone lives this fantasy of him being what he was 30+ years ago. My instinct tells me otherwise but you seem pretty confident….Tyson is about ready to find out what age is, and if the fight is real he is going to get hurt.
What instinct do you possess, being delusional like Tyson is?My instinct tells me otherwise but you seem pretty confident….
I just don’t see how at his age he thinks he’s just going to knock Jake out. I’m sure Tyson in his 20’s could no problem.Maybe I am swayed by the fact Tyson grew up in the projects getting his ass beat. Also I am delusional enough to hope that effort can overcome the effects of age. Also, I am not sure Jake Paul is really that great of a boxer and really more just a great promoter. On the assumption that he’s just a young guy who’s in good shape with average boxing skills, my thinking is Mike Tyson has the advantage. What instinct do you possess, being delusional like Tyson is?I just don’t see how at his age he thinks he’s just going to knock Jake out. Yes, there’s definitely a difference between now and 20 years ago, but I’d have all my money on Tyson in his state of mind from back then just walking into this fight with no training and beating Jake than now. A boxers worst enemy is both inactivity and age. Every champ loses once they’re old no matter how good they once were and even world champs that go inactive just a couple of years struggle to find their rhythm or confidence after a long break vs an opponent who’s being active. Seen all the time with fighters who make a comeback. Tyson has both of those going on for him as well as age, lacks the speed, power, stamina and reflexes. If he beats Jake it’ll show how bad Jake really is, which I do think he’s not “good” per say, but we’ll see.My thinking is that maybe he’s now got something to prove which will give him a leg up, whereas 20 years ago he was just trying to milk it for money. But maybe that’s just wishful thinking as I’m rapidly hurtling toward old age myself, haha
