Full muscles: Muscles will grow fuller when metformin is used with high carbohydrate diets.

Lack of fat storage:
Metformin helps prevent fat from being deposited, so you get full benefits from carbohydrate heavy meals, without worrying to end up storing fat. This is why diabetics say they ‘lean out’ on this drug.

Insulin receptors:
Metformin helps keep muscle cells sensitized for insulin that the body produces.

Appetite suppression:
This drug will limit hunger, so it’s perfect for those doing a ketogenic diet. Furthermore, on re-feed days it makes a perfect addition to your carbohydrate heavy cheat day.

Pumps: Bodybuilders claim to get tremendous pumps when using metformin.

However, there are a fair amount of side effects you guys should be aware of.

SIDES

These are some of the common side effects I have come accross from researching the drug.
Nausea, Vomiting, Gas, Bloating, Diarrhea, Appetite Suprression

Half Life
The half life is listed as 4-6 hours. However, there are slow releasing extended tabs available. Bodybuilders should stick to the faster acting version as mentioned above.

Dosing for Bodybuilders

Full muscles can be achieved if 500-1000 milligrams (mgs) are taken within 1 hour after a large carbohydrate meal. The more carbohydrates there are in the meal, the higher the dosage should be taken, never exceeding 1500 mgs at a time. Nevertheless, metformin can be taken with as many high carb meals as you wish.

Metformin has been around for a long time and serves a variety of off label uses. I was a disgusting fat body in my teens and had a lot of late night glucose binges, thanks to Grandma's awesome desserts. FML.

My doctor provided that as an offlabel use for binge eating management. It worked.

I find some of the possible positive effects fascinating. Thanks for the post.

is a powerful drug yes and works but reducing IGF for me is very bad . i probably have bad reputation on it because my wife as Bulimia ( eating alot ) and use metformin to eat more food and keep shredded . But in bodybuilding as a place? if reduce IGF? and to burn fat you have alot options to use that not reduce IGF

Interesting read. I'd be inclined to stay away from it only because my mom was prescribed Metformin and was miserable while taking it. Said side effects were horrible.

I hate it. It does not have a place in bodybuilding.

It does have a place in anti-aging, and health though.

As far as the reducing IGF-1, I do not think it does do this. From what I have read, it reduces inflammation, which effects MTOR and the IGF-1 receptor in the muscle. So while you might not have lower IGF-1 produced in the liver, its ability to bind the muscle could be effected. Would have a similar effect to how our androgen receptors are.. doesn't matter how much Test or other gear you take, if your receptors are shitty you can't do anything with it. Also, if you have high IGF-1, it's going to bind to something.. and if it's not your muscles? Then what... your organs? This is just speculation by me though..

Mostly for people that have Bulimia ( eating disorder )

Lantus long term fat build up internal in the stomach area the most
second thing for blood sugar control no fat stored metformin

lantus higher igf1
metformin lower igf1

combine metformin with hgh high igf1 better insulin sensitivity fuller muscles thinner skin

good for dieting to slow hunger
good for bulking to keep insulin sensitivity but need hgh with it

lantus for none diabetic 1-3times per week
^
prevent stomach fat gain

fast acting 3-7 days per week

You only get fat or visceral fat with insulin if you eat fat or eat to much . Insulin dont make anyone fat , to much food make you fat . I kkow people using slin to get shredded pre contest , low dosage lantus and very low carbs you got ripped .

Whats considered a low Lantus dose? I haven’t touched slin in three years but I do know a lot about it. I would consider 30iu of Lantus low 50-60 on the mid to higher scale. I didn’t use metformin ever but I did purchase two boxes for hardly anything. My body isn’t know where near that level anymore but one day hopefully in the next year I can try slin and met together.

What dose did they prescribe it at? Do you take in the evening?

Low dosage lantus is 20 to 30ius . Medium 50ius , advanced athletes top level 100ius . HGH with slin is another weapon . Metformin dont have place in bodybuilding because bodybuilding is build. And metformin blocks the absorb of carbs

I just started metformin today. I have a good A1C but my sugar is around 112 every morning. I started with 500mg extended release with evening meals.
I just don’t wantto use Tresiba if I don’t have to, especially because I have needed it on HGH in the past.

So awesome here. Walked into Costco and bought 60/500mg “liberación prolongada” for about $22usd.

No luck with berberine?

No luck with berberine?
It is in a few of the supplents I take but not in therapeutic doses. Easier for me to get metformin here. I’mheaded to the states so I will pick some up. What is a good dosage/protocol?

I dont like to use metformin , but on cutting help reduce hunger and also using fasted in morning before cardio helps alot burning more fat . 2000mg day , fasted , before workout , after workout and before bed

500mg 2-3 times a day

My guys don't typically get the stomach issues with berberine like they do with Metformin. I RARELY use Metformin though since it actually changes the way your bodies liver functions and to a lesser extent the intestine.

I'm not a fan of manipulating my organs when there are safer alternatives that usually work just as well if they are consistently followed.

Cheers!
I’m a lucky guy with few side effects, ever. I am not a fan of metformin switching off mTOR, which is obviously conter-productive for a BB. But weighing out the benefits like anti-aging, anti-cancer, I picked up this metformin. So far no adverse reactions. Changitos!

But for sure I am on the berberine once I get across the border.

Only thing with tresibia it doesn’t increase igf1 like lantus does

Finally, it is important to note that IDeg is a full agonist of the insulin receptor and maintains the metabolic responses of human insulin. IDeg has a low affinity for the human insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1 receptor), comparable with that of human insulin.4 In order to investigate metabolic responses and molecular safety Nishimura et al. performed binding studies using recombinant human insulin receptors and human IGF-1 receptors. The affinity of IDeg for human insulin receptor isoforms was found to be similar while the affinity for the human IGF-1 receptor was lower. In particular, IGF-1 receptor binding relative to insulin receptor binding was low (<1 % relative to human insulin) as well as was the mitogenic/metabolic potency ratio (<1 % relative to human insulin).

To investigate whether human insulin (HI) and insulin analogues differ in their ability to activate the human IGF-I receptor (IGF-IR), the human insulin receptor A (IR-A) and the human insulin receptor B (IR-B) in vitro. HI, short-acting insulin analogues (insulin aspart; insulin lispro) and long-acting insulin analogues (insulin glargine; insulin detemir) were compared by using kinase receptor activation (KIRA) bioassays specific for IGF-IR, IR-A or IR-B, respectively. These assays quantify ligand activity by measuring receptor auto-phosphorylation upon ligand binding. HI and insulin analogues were tested in a range from 0.1 to 100 nM. Short-acting analogues: Overall, short-acting insulin analogues did not differ substantially from HI, nor from each other. Insulin lispro was slightly more potent than HI and insulin aspart in activating the IGF-IR, only reaching statistical significance at 100 nM (p<0.01). Long-acting analogues: At <10 nM insulin glargine was as potent as HI in activating the IRs and IGF-IR. At 10-100 nM insulin glargine was significantly more potent than HI in activating the IR-B (p<0.05) and IGF-IR (p<0.001). Insulin glargine was more potent than insulin detemir in activating all three receptors (p<0.001). Insulin detemir was less potent than HI in activating the IRs at 1-10 nM (p<0.01) and IGF-IR at >1 nM (p<0.05). Insulin glargine was more potent in activating the IGF-IR than HI and insulin detemir. Since KIRA bioassays do not mimic the exact in vivo situation, further research is needed to find out whether our data have implications for clinical use of insulin glargine.

Metformin absolutely works! I used it to curtail my nighttime munchies

Metformin sucks. If you have blood sugar issues Jardiance is the way go. Keeps blood sugar low even with 18iu serostim
