Either a Cotton Mouth Water Moccasin, it actually could have been a harmless Diamond Water Snake but I wasn't gonna float up close enough to find out. Theyoccasionally like to try and climb on the kayak.

Water Snake or moccasin. Looks more like a water snake, but jaw lines aren't really clear in this pic.

That's what I was looking for as well. The jawline wasn't really easy to see like you said. I'm thinking water snake because that should have been more pronounced. That stick didn't help either.
