About me- im a 24yo male, and have been struggling with low t symptoms for as long as i can remember. Never knew thats what it was until i did some research. About 7 months ago i got my first blood work done. Test came in at 431. Doc told me to diet, train hard etc. i have been prioritizing food in zinc, magnesium and essentially foods that can help support testosterone function.

Fast forward to yesterday. Motivation all time low, gym gains slacking, finding it really hard to push myself. Got more bloodwork done. My new level is 277ng/dl so even lower than before! Even after training harder, fixing diet etc. i haven’t had a follow up with the doc yet. But i am hoping they will prescribe me T. My doctor seemed hesitant when i mentioned it, but agreed to do a full panel to check.

Do you guys with more experience think i would benefit from TRT? And what could be some ways to save fertility etc. would i start off with T alone, recheck and if blood work is bad then add something like hcg?

I also noticed some levels are very low or below range. Im not too sure what they all mean. Chatgpt made it seem like it could pose potential risks if i start TRT. But just needing some advise.

Thanks!

you are still young, but your T levels are low, so yes, I would advise you to start a TRT right away.

if your current doctor does not want to follow you on this, there are many doctors in the world...find another one who is better prepared

How’s your lifestyle? Are you over weight and if so how much?

How active are you? What type of job? What hobbies activities do you have? Sit on the coach all day and watch tv play video games? Paint us a picture of the average day in your life.

It’ll give a better idea as to why your test is low at 24 and if you should start TRT that early or if there’s lifestyle changes that could help.

If constantly in the 200s I would definitely jump on.. being in the 400s the first round would make me hesitate.. I would check my levels a couple more times if it was me.. I wouldn’t rely on just one bad test

I train 5 days a week, follow strict dieting for cutting / bulking. Walk 10,000 steps. I try to stay as active as possible. The gym has really become my passion. I run a business and work 2 jobs. The business is active and the day jobs are in the office. So stress could certainly be playing a factor.

I have noticed with the gym, even pushing myself and following a workout routine. I haven’t gained much muscle for 2 years of working out. Sure there is some, and a whole lot better than before i started. But for 2 years. Its pretty disappointing.

Are you overweight? Gotta ask.

Otherwise you sound like a legitimate TRT candidate.

Does you diet contain plenty of veggies and fruit, healthy fats.
Are you getting enough rest so recovery can actually happen?

Yea my diet is pretty dialed in. Lots of red meat, avacado and foods high in zinc and magnesium. Rest is sub optimal, i have insomnia so some nights can be rough. Doc prescribed me some meds to help and have gotten better sleep recently from that.

I think that could certainly be a factor in the low T results. But i also think a boost up to normal ranges could help as well. I do worry about long term effects on fertility, and potential increases in E. I dont want to get gyno😅 but for quality of life and get a little boost in the gym it seems quite appealing.

I can't say what my levels were in my 20's. But when i got mine done when i was 40 my number was in the very low 400's and i could out lift and carry more muscle then most anyone that was in the gym at the same time as me. I can't say that going from 400 to 800 at that time made a huge difference but there was a slight edge upward.

I would say you’re a definite TRT candidate were it not for your age. That worries me a bit. You go down this path and you may have to be on TRT the rest of your life. At such a young age, that would not be ideal.

As someone who has been on TRT for over 13 years. I’d try to do a hpta restart before sticking myself with a needle twice a week for life. Get a sleep study as well. Apnea can and will affect testosterone levels. I’m 48 and am over sticking myself twice a week

Had another evaluation with my doctor where he explained the risks and educated me on everything. He decided to go with 100mg split between 50mg twice a week. So i will pin monday and Thursday. And i have to get my levels checked in 4 weeks and consistent bloodwork done to monitor. I am a bit worried about long term shutdown, however my doctor says im young and with proper protocols i could bounce back. While nothing is guaranteed, he says its not completely off the table.

I am pretty excited to start feeling good, and especially the gains made in the gym. My question for that is, should i train harder now that i am on TRT? Or keep everything the same? My thoughts were to emphasize my fourm on each exercise, ensuring i get proper rest in between each set. And really lock in my diet.

My hope is that i can put on some decent muscle mass, while also feeling great and addressing the underlying issues i was having previously.

lol, you can always go back to 277 eventually...good to know, thank your doctor

Im curious why when someone asks if they should indulge the first thing that they are asked is if they are overweight. I understand that being overweight can make your bloodwork sloppy with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. What if your lipids are on point and you have normal blood pressure. Is there other concerns?

Haha right🤣 yea definitely was happy with the results! Did first injection tonight, ezpz. i have read it takes about 3-4 weeks for it to fully kick in to feel effects. So in the mean time, time to dial in training, diet and cardio and get rolling! LFG

My little brother got bloodwork dome and he had 1ng/dl more than me in testosterone. He is 18 and overweight, quite a bit. But for him, it is a disease that causes that. I believe crushing disease or something like that.. where his body cant regulate hormones. So could be why people ask? Not sure. But just found that out today.
