Becoming the Iron Lion

Had a good holiday.

Went to visit family I haven't seen in a bit. Great gathering, great good, great memories.

Got home and back to plan pretty much. I brought home a banana nut pineapple cake thing and I've been chipping away at it lol. Just subbing out some carbs at the end of the day for it, doesn't matter right now much, I'm not fat and I'm only really training lower enough to matter so it's a good treat.

Wrist has been ok, pretty sore this week though. I dunno if that's me using it more unintentionally or just the healing process. Nothing painful, just sore kinda

Ran through a pretty good leg day today. Adductor machine, glutes, single leg leg press, seated curls, belt squat and some calves. Pretty spent after.

Legs are looking good. Even with the doses minimal they're holding size if not getting a bit rounder.

Haven't looked at my back in weeks. Afraid to see the destruction back there lol

I'm sure it back is just fine. Little break may even do it some good and it'll explode soon as you get back to it

How much longer before you start training with wrist?

Funny you said that.

Been waiting on today for my follow up.

Wrist is looking good but, no green light to start training or using it at all yet. On the x rays, where they pulled the bone graph from is almost completely filled back in. The fusion is getting there, it just takes more time for bones to grow together then just "scab over" I guess.

I knew it could possibly be up to 12 weeks post op before I could start PT but, I was still hopeful 5 could be enough lol.

1lb lifting restriction and I'm in the brace another month at least. I'll go get a CT scan a few days before my next appointment which is the 15th of January and MAYBE I'll be able to start PT.

Other then that I'm not doing much of anything besides training legs and wasting time training upper

Uhh I see, well hope you heal up quickly man

Merry Christmas IL Family!

I hope everyone has a great Christmas.

First, I had a nice little td over the weekend, iron Lion comes through again with the best GH on the board. (I'll post a pic when the family isn't swarming the house)

The wife and I scraped up some money and took a little weekend trip this past weekend. Nowhere fancy, just a few hours away.

Not working since October has hit the bank account pretty hard but, we needed some away time. It was great. Walked a lot, rested a lot too. Saw some cool lights and shows. Successful weekend!

I haven't trained since Thursday and will go back this Thursday. No particular reason why I decided to take a little break, just the way the getaway and then Christmas landed.

Wrist is getting pretty sore lately.....I assume it's stiffness (I hope). It feels more stable overall but, I still don't feel comfortable with putting any weight on it. Example, this weekend on our trip we got into a ball pit (yeah we were being kids ) and I couldn't/wouldn't put weight on that hand when I tried to get up. Turning over in bed it doesn't feel right to put weight on that wrist. It'll get better though.

Going for CT scan on the 13th then my follow up on the 15th. Hopefully good news because, Good Lord, I just want to train with both arms...... There's only so many sessions of machine laterals, pec deck, one arm bicep curls and one arm extensions a guy can do before he just says fuck it lol. Leg training has been fun though

Hey all.

Just over here waiting.....

Have a CT scan on the 13th for the wrist then follow up the 15th.

Will see where we go from there but hopefully, forward.

Overall things are pretty stagnant ATM. Took a week off during Christmas to have some extra free time with the family.

Training is still the same. Legs very frequently, they are responding pretty well even with the small test dose. Upper is boring so it's just what it is.

I've been overly sore after legs the last couple times, mainly adductors so there's been some adjusting in exercise selection there.

When I've got the green light I'll be back to regularly updating and this won't be a sorely neglected log lol

Follow up today went well.

No more brace.

I get to start PT this week and have a 10lb lifting restriction (we'll see about that )

My return to work day got pushed back though. We moved it to the end of March but, unless things don't go well it'll be earlier then that.

The fusions in the wrist on the 4 bones are about 50% healed right now. Was able to see where a lot of new bone has formed with the CT scan. Some spots are fully connected and just need to continue to thicken and harden up. A couple of them have connected but still need time for more area to grow together.

The fusions won't all completely grow together but, it's going well day's Dr.

The one bone that had the lower half of it removed, the scaphoid, that was digging into my radius, forearm bone, is staying in place very nicely as well.

Now I just gotta keep being smart and recover.

Had my first PT session yesterday.

Nothing much happened. Did a grip test, surprised how much strength I had lost. My left, non dominant hand, had 100lbs of pressure and my right only had 70. Good thing is this should almost all come back.

Measured degrees of motion in the wrist. Extension, tilting the hand up, I have lost almost no mobility. Flexsion though, I have lost almost all. 60 degrees is average, I have 8 degrees

Pronation and supination (twisting the wrist)are normal. Deviation moving the hand side to side while it's flat, need work.

PT seemed like I was actually in a very good spot structurally. The Dr did a great job putting my shit back together apparently.
.
The Dr told me he chose this surgery route after looking under the hood so to speak because of my training mostly and it seems to be a good call. Losing extension is a better alternative then flexsion IMO because I can still get the wrist bent back got pressing and such. Training back will be test.

Anyways, got some stretches to do and some putty stuff to squeeze. Will be going twice a week for the next 3 weeks at least.

Road to recovery. 💪 Hope I get there with you.

Dr said I would get back at least 90% from my titanium elbow, not even close, I’m only at about 60%. Lost strength and ROM, basically handicapped in right arm now

Well I'm not that bad off.

Wrist is useable already, just can't bend it enough to wipe my ass yet lol.

Grip will come up too, just haven't used it in forever.

Stop raining on my parade

Legs are holding up well. Haven't measured but I feel like they've gotten better since the wrist surgery and me training them much more frequently.

I'm still white AF

Ya think? Geez dude, That sweep!
Thanks guys.

Going back to very high frequency on legs has worked really well. Back when my legs were their best this was the approach. I just got away from it when I couldn't deal with the knee pain.

On a side note, I've been on just a low of dose test for so long I can't remember what it feels like to be "on". Hopefully a couple more weeks and I'll get to toss in some goodies!

Trying to pull today.

Nothing crazy worked up to 70 lb aside on the Rogers row. 70 lb on a one-arm pull-down and 70 lb on a seated upper back row.

Did some dumbbell curls up to 30 lb but 30 lb felt very iffy so back those down to 20 lb.

Overall felt okay probably could have pushed the pull movements harder but I definitely don't want to risk injuring my wrist again. It feels solid and physical therapy is going well. I'm definitely getting grip strength back. The last session I had 70 lb of grip strength on the right wrist and in this most recent I was up to 92 compared to 100 lb in the other hand so it's getting better. I gained degrees of motion in each flexation extension pronation and supination. So improvement at least. Right now I'm at about 60° total wrist movement and typically 66 to 86 is about the normal range for recovery from the surgery I had.

It's been over twelve weeks I've been on just a low dose of test which is the longest I've been off in a pretty long time. Another couple weeks of PT and I'm hoping things will be solid enough to start really getting training upper body back to semi normal.

My strength had gotten to a point where now, when I try to move light weights they do absolutely nothing despite my best efforts to make the sets challenging. Can't get a pump and usually my patience gives out before my muscles do lol.

It's interesting though, even after months of not training, the stimulus needed to progress previously seems to still be needed even now dest the atrophy and strength loss. I guess I expected that to some degree given how my legs reacted to lighter weights and more volume (not well). Until I started progressing the weights up again (in a way I can not inflict debilitating knee pain after) and generating more intensity.

But, here we are, big legs and a little upper body

Holy sheeeeet my legs are sore today.

The knees are holding up surprisingly well too. Since increasing my rep ranges and forcing the eccentric more the last month or two I've had very little issue with pain the next day. My legs don't respond well to higher reps, never have, but this is the way I've got to train them if I'm not going to keep doing more and more long term damage.

The eccentric loading is the most surprising revelation although it shouldn't be. ISO holds have been something that's helped ever since I started to troubleshoot the issue and I thought more control over the weight would help, which I mean it doesn't hurt BUT, loading the joint in the eccentric instead of controlling the weight has been the winning ticket.

Instead of just controlling the tempo of the eccentric, I'm forcing load TOWARD specific joints, (the bad knee) and it's been very effective. On a leg press, I'll shift as much weight to the worse knee as possible and only assist it with the other leg enough to stay safe.

It shouldn't be surprising because, if I try to hold a knee extension on the worse side with as little as 30lbs, my leg will shake violently at first. Over a few sets it gets better and better but would never fully go away. When it started to happen on all of my leg pressing type movements I got into an eccentric strength mindset for a couple weeks which, is where I started loading the joint more then just controlling the weight. I noticed over those couple weeks that my knee pain was greatly reduced and I just kept rolling with it.

Now I've progressed weights using both higher reps and the eccentric loading and it seems to be working pretty well. Since surgery, it's been the longest period of time I've gone without having to sacrifice any sessions due to pain.

Hack squats are one exercise I haven't been able to use this method with. I can't seem to get in the groove so to speak and I'll have pretty radical pain the next day if not during the session.

One point - someone is going to read this and think, you're going to hurt yourself "loading the joint" if you're just thinking of putting all the load there. I do not mean locking out your knees. If the knee is bent, the quad carry varying degrees of the tension depending on how how much flexsion there is. So, the joint only gets less and less load in this scenario.

Got some full push and pull sessions in the last two days.

I bought some "gangsta wraps" (wrist wraps) that mark bells company (the company that makes the slingshot) sells. They're 36 inch wraps so longer then anything I've used before. They also have no real thumb loop, it's sewn onto both ends of the straps so I can be used with the loop or with it.

I've been using them with the loop on my thumb so the wrap starts in the palm. They're pretty good, very stable. I'm only using the one on the right side for both days

Had more confidence and added some weights to exercises. Most everything feels fine with the wrap besides lateral raises with dumbbells or triceps press downs. Other then that, it's just a strength and stability issue, not really pain. By the end of the session the wrist is a bit sore but, no shooting pain.

Stamina is shit, expected. Strength isn't down much, I think, but I haven't loaded things up yet.

Had a decent pump during push today which was great. Didn't feel like a skinny bitch.

Gonna pull some bloods soon just to see how things look and I should have a package from iron Lion coming my way when they get back to start adding in goodies. Can't wait!

Same way I feel for the most part. Good news is at least doing something instead of nothing seems to help the recovery process
