Becoming the Iron Lion

Trained the last 2 days finally.

Had a really good run with consistency and training but, the last week was below average. Is what is it.

Y'day the wife and I had a date night. It's been a few weeks and we had a good time. Bowling, went and got pedicures (first time I've ever had one and, they scraped a ton of skin off my feet lol) and went to dinner after.

We were going to go to Texas Roadhouse but, 2.5 hour wait .... Fuck you. Went to Denny's lol. Had an omelette.

Push y'day was good and pull today was good.

Push took a step back, needed to work on contractions, but pull progressed with great connection with the back.

Both days I reduced volume by 3 working sets but added in a couple muscle rounds instead.

Tomorrow I'm back to work and will train whenever I'm able too and still get good rest between.

I bet it was delicious at the time though
Honestly, the last 4 were just to spite the waitress.

When I ordered, I told her I would probably end up eating a dozen and she popped off "Nobody has ever eaten more then 8" real snotty....I fucking showed her even though I felt absolutely awful the rest of the night lol.

Trained the last 3 days despite work murdering me.

Legs was yesterday, pretty pathetic. I'm just trying to do enough to keep the legs hanging on ATM. Slow high rep sets just thinking about not letting the knees get more compromised.

By no means is this a way I advocate training, especially if you're trying to grow a body part but, with my days of improving set aside it's working decently for holding on.

I had to call into work for the first time in 20 years yesterday.

I've worked with no sleep, hurt, ECT but, I guess I'm just too old now and had enough. Worked 16 out of the last 18 days, 195 hours. They can fuck themselves. These greedy cock suckers don't give two shits about their employees and, is a miracle there aren't guys getting hurt with the lack of time off.

Anyways, took the wife to get a new necklace for her pendant since hers broke and she's getting her hair braided
Eat then home

Still being a retired shitty bodybuilder.

Haven't train much at all lately since I feel like I'm fucking 70 years old and work is pushing my shit in.

I haven't touched legs in two weeks. Knees feel amazing. Had to do a little "sprint" at work the other night and I'm pretty sure I have some micro tears in my right quad yay. Some spotty bright red bruising and it's painful. It's not dented in line the left one, So that's a plus.

Getting to the gym is my biggest hurdle currently. I enjoy my training while I'm there, I'm actually stronger then I've ever been in most areas right now, but I just can't drag my worthless ass in there.

Might get on a set schedule next week instead of being on call but it's still 6 12s off one day, repeat. It's 4pm to 4am so, I'll train after I'm done at work and hopefully be able to sleep as soon as I'm home.

I'm a schedule guy , it's part of what made me a shitty bodybuilder instead of a really shitty one so -

Wake up 2pm pack food shower
Leave for work 3pm
Leave work 4am
Gym 445am
Leave from 6am
Home 620am
Shower/sleep hopefully 7am

Repeat? There will be zero time for anything other then my day off and the days I don't train but, it's something to work with possibly.

Man I freaking hate nights. No wonder your having hell wanting to workout.

Bro, you're an animal. No way I'd be training after a night shift like that. Much respect.

It's not the nights really. I've either worked on call or nights my entire career here (20 years). I actually prefer nights since it's so fucking hot here and, I would always train mid day so I didn't miss any time from training with the family since there were all at school or work. Felt less selfish.

The issue right now, is partially, I've been going from a night shift (6pm-6am) then having the afternoon off but needing to be back at work the next morning at 430am almost every work shift so, I'm trying to get to sleep at 9pm after sleeping until eleven or noon and that's a task.

Being on call, I get a call for work 3 hours before I have to be there, so the phone rings at 130. Then it's almost impossible to get back to sleep. That has just compounded over the last couple months AND getting older.

This didn't phase me 5 years ago, I averaged 4 hours of sleep when I was really pushing the size and I was my biggest and best. Did that for about 2 years straight with nothing but 5-6 12 hour shifts every single week, 22k steps just at work and I was training 2 on 1 off religiously (didn't miss a single training session for 2 years straight).

Shift work takes years off your life, (it also fucks your blood sugar and hematocrit/hemoglobin up, I've seen this with clients as well as myself over the years). I think it's just finally catching up with me.

Top that off with all the injuries and throwing in the towel on competing again.... Might be time to pull back the "need" to train and focus more on coaching. I've always been better at that anyways

Sounds brutal, I wouldn’t last long, maybe a week before I threw in the towel.

I'm alive.

Been training but I haven't trained legs in a few weeks now.

I have some low back thing that keeps flaring up and that wouldn't help. Plus, I'm enjoying pain free knees.

I'm training 3-4 times a week currently, just depends on work. Push Pull Arms. I'm getting fat ...... I've still got the appetite I had a year ago but I'm just not expending the calories like I usually do. It's mostly snacks...... I've never been a snack guy either lol.

Been trying to reign it in but, the goodies be calling my name.

Since I'm not training legs, and I'm eating a larger surplus, I'm a strong bitch when I do lift though lol. All time pr's on most exercises.

I'm reign it in, I'm almost to the disgusted point which, for me isn't too awful but, I can tell it in the waist.

Work is slammed. 6 12s, two days off, 5 12s, 1 day off, repeat. Lots and lots of hours.

Coaching is actually good currently. I've got one of the best collection of guys I've had in a long time and they're all busting ass.

House still hasn't sold...... RV life is going well...... Hopefully the house sells soon. Wife is starting a new job soon which will help a ton getting to our financial goals we had before building.

Just life right now guys. Enjoying it and grinding so I can retire at 55 hopefully

Pretty much the same things going on.

Haven't trained legs in over a month but, I'll give them a whirl this week. They've shrunk and had enough time to get better.

Training overall has been consistent, short but consistent. Little added GH has sleep improved and overall recovery much better.

As usual, everything from the Lion is working perfectly.

First time I've touched legs in a month. It's been probably close to three months since I've really tried to "train" them.

Pics are deceiving. Without a pump I can CLEARLY see loss of muscle, especially the left leg (worse knee).

Kept it easy today. I'm on vacation this week and I wanna be able to walk and enjoy myself so, I just went through the paces so I'm not crippled from knee pain and soreness. It's a solid start to get me back into the swing of something resembling leg day.

Sets of extensions for ten reps working weight up until I can't get ten.

Two sets of adductors for fifteen super set with two sets of lying leg curls for ten reps. Surprised I didn't cramp on the hamstring stuff, I don't have to do much of anything for them to seize up.

Four sets of leg press for fifteen reps super set with cable preacher curls for twelve reps.

Two sets of hacks for ten reps super set with DB curls for ten reps

Two sets of seated leg curls super set with EZ bar curls.

Next time we progress.

The injuries and health problems have gutted my bodybuilding, just looking to hold onto what little I have left at this point.
About where I'm at. Besides legs, I can train everything else pretty much just as hard as before. But, since I can't train legs the way I used to, I've got the "what's the point" mentality going on to an extent.

I did train legs again last night and no pain in the knees today so, that's a plus. Just gotta pick my exercises and order correctly. The days of hack squats with 7 plates a side is over... As fun as that is I just can't go through the pain at work for the following week.

Last night

3 sets of extensions and 3 sets of adductors
4 sets of squat press
2 sets of v squat
3 sets of lying leg curls
2 sets of single leg press

8 sets of biceps thrown in..... If I don't train legs I won't train arms is my motivation currently

I have torn meniscus in both knees and a torn ACL in the left, the pain can be severe at times.

I’m still training legs with the injuries, can only do light leg press and leg extensions

Got my days mixed up last night and trained push instead of pull. No biggy, progressed from last session.

The plate loaded nautilus press I've been doing this day is maxed out now. Ten reps last night with 5 plates a side, I can maybe put another on but it's going to fall off. I have the same issues with the nautilus pulldown and row. Rubber coated plates are killing the gains here. I'll switch to the incline version but I think I maxed that out already as well.

I tried the neutral grip arsenal incline again and my wrist just can't bend enough to hold the handles in that position so, I'll just use it with a normal grip.

DB presses...... They're getting better. Moved the 80s for three sets last night pretty easily. I just have to grip the DB in my right hand all the way in towards the weight. If it's in the middle I can't support it.

Cable flys, tricep press downs, rope extensions and such. Was a good session.

Sadly I go back to work tomorrow but, I got a good amount of rest this vacation and didn't do any real labor which I needed.

Onward!

Oof.

Yeah my right got blown out when I was thirteen then I had cartilage tear off the bone between the meniscus at 21. That's my good knee though lol.

I've never knowingly injured the left but, it's the one with bigger bone spurs and arthritis. I thought about having the spurs removed but not really a good time to be out of work, even if it's a short period of time.

Look at the bone spurs growing into my esophagus.
That’s also where I broke my neck in a rollover car accident long time ago

Low back not much better

On top of that I have an immune disorder from Lyme disease, which fucks me up pretty bad too.

Rest is so critical. Anyone who gets to where you are has the drive to override resting but it’s critical (not telling you anything new, I know), so it’s good you’ve gotten some

And your post makes me wonder about joining a gym for access to machines as I get older. I love my garage gym, but machines have a lot of bennies for an older dude

If you don't mind asking this question how were you able to accept slowing down in bodybuilding? With your injurys I see in your profile you got a good amount of muscle still
