Damn...halibut is a bucket list fish. My dad slayed em on his Alaskan trip. Had 2 so big they shot the fuckers before landing em. Damn good eating, maybe my favorite. To be honest im pretty sure they bite anything that flops in front of em bro. He was catching them on some big ass yellow lead jigs that looked like shit. How many ounces are thise vudu shrimp? Gotta get heavy and deep for them. But im sure you know that.halibut, I dont seem to catch those, can catch surf perch all day, getting tired of those
My brother lives in Anchorage. I stayed up there to visit for a month one year and we went to his favorite restaurant and got the Halibut. To me it was like a large piece of white protein with very little flavor. The spices used was where the flavor came from. It was good don't get me wrong but really bland by itself.Damn...halibut is a bucket list fish. My dad slayed em on his Alaskan trip. Had 2 so big they shot the fuckers before landing em. Like you and @Hablooblah I never got into salt. Too busy running the swamps for bass, bream and catfish. Spent enough money on bass fishing much less salt gear. $$$I don’t fish anymore but I use to only use swim baits. I also only did bass fishing I wasn’t big into anything else.
I caught more bass on a black rubber worm than anything else by far. Culprit, Zoom and a few other brands.I’ve caught lots fish with jigs and plastic shrimp with a jig head that didn’t swim. This was in Florida. Snook, Jack, red fish, trout, barracuda etc. I’m sure the swim would do great
Never had much success with live bait outside of crickets, worms and shiners when I was bream fishing. Those artificial broke back top waters are a blast pond fishing. The way the fish explode out of the water will get you going. Its hard to beat live bait. I find 9/10 live bait will out fish artificials.
When fish aren't actively feeding is when I think artificials shine. Getting that reaction strike.
Caught a moccasin on a stringer of bream. As a kid/teen, I caught more fish with CORN, then anything else. No lures, not worms. Corn. Probably sounds weird but it worked for me
Granted I do suck at fishing but I once caught a 5lb large mouth bass.
I had the craziest day fishing once in Narragansett, Rhode Island. I caught a purple sting ray. 10 mins later a purple flying fish. 10mins later a lobster (we ate that). And 10 mins later a Good year tire.
LMAO. True story.
Used live wells after that.
