I have been trying to decide if I want to go through with TRT for a year now and have it on my counter, but need some advice. I went on Reddit and everyone is saying not to go on but I’d like some input from you guys.
I’m 35. Weight 155, 5’10.
My total t is 615, free t is 86, and shbg is 59. The clinic told me while my total numbers look good, shbg is eating up my free testosterone. I want to be jacked and I work out 4 days a week with a trainer, have been for 3 years and barely see any gains. I am always very sore. I eat very healthy and get 200 grams of protein per day, get 8 hours of sleep every night and have no stress. I barely have a sex drive but have no problem getting it up. Not planning on having kids.
Would going on 150mg testosterone per week make a difference in muscle gain? I’m sorry if I sound stupid, just trying to figure out why I’m so sore all the time. My trainer said poor recovery could be a result of low t, and the clinic said if I raise it I might see better performance in the gym.
All I have ever wanted is to be muscular and I’m so skinny after three years it is driving me absolutely crazy.
I dont think people on Reddit are informed about shbg and free testosterone, so should just ignore them but now I’m even more confused than before.
Any help would be awesome.
Thank you :)

615 isn't low, it's mid range. Would going to 900 help? Maybe a little bit if everything Else is already perfect. Are you willing to do injections for the rest of your life? Do you want to be enhanced and run cycles? I personally had to go on TRT. My total was 170 and my free was 12. I had every symptom on the list. TRT made a massive difference for me. But going from 600 to 900, I don't think it's going to be a massive difference for you. Going from 600 to 2000 on the other hand probably would be. It really just comes down to what level of risk you are willing to assume. You could try using boron to lower your SHBG before you make a commitment to TRT. That's where I would personally start.

This is great stuff. Everything he said.

I don’t mind injecting forever. I want to gain muscle. I guess I want to know if testosterone replacement would allow me to gain muscle since it’s so hard for me. I have been making progress at the gym with my trainer for three years and literally look like I’ve never worked out. If I do it and get to 1200, would gains be easier? Sorry, I know it’s hard to answer but someone has to have some info. The clinic obviously says yes, but $$$. I tried boron and it did not work for me.

Go to GoH4M.com, upload your own or get a full bloodwork and make a free consult. Ryan and his team are experts including treating high SHBG.

H4M is on reddit too, ask them your question there if you wish, but they're the only ones I'd trust on Reddit.

That is who I went through. I got it prescribed and they told me it would help with my low-ish free testosterone. I just want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

You've done some due diligence, that's good. Legit TRT, like within acceptable medical range, should bump that free up and SHBG down so you'll see something but it won't be drastic. It sounds like you want more of a mild cycle for your goals. If you've done the research and you know what you're jumping into, then sure, give it a go.

I have to do more research on cycles. I don’t know how it works. Would a cycle of 150mg per week work for gains then just stop using it?

Nah the blast and cruise method is far superior to coming off full stop. You would be better running TRT (probably closer to 200 a week) then bump it up to 3-400 for a few months (watching blood work and adjusting protocol as needed for health markers and side effects). Then come back to TRT to give your body a rest.

150 for me would put me below your natural levels right now. And if you come all the way off and PCT after each cycle you end up losing a ton of what you put on during the cycle waiting for natural production to start back up.

So maybe get total T to 2,000 like suggested above? I’m sorry if I sound ignorant I am still learning. So basically getting to 1000 wouldn’t make a difference but 2,000 for this blast would help for a few months then go back down?

There is a lot to unpack here. I'll do my best and just give my opinion.

Other than lack of sex drive (which could be the result of multiple factors), it doesn't sound like you have symptoms of low T. Any of these concierge clinics have one goal in mind. Get customers. This clinic is giving you correct information but is that the real reason you are not seeing the gains that you expect.

You have been working with a trainer for 3 years and have seen barely any gains. Fire your trainer and find somebody who has a track record of putting muscle on people whether natty or not. I know a guy on here who fits the description @Meetketchup
You say you eat very healthy ( I don't doubt your sincerity), however, if you want to get jacked you need to track your food and get uncomfortable eating a lot of food. Especially if you are 155 pounds.

Why are you sore all the time? My instinct is that your trainer doesn't know wtf he is doing. Run a simple upper/lower split, pick the same exercises and get stronger on those over years while bringing up your body weight. That's how you get jacked.

Will 150mg of test make a difference in muscle gain? Based on reading what you have wrote, it will not live up to your expectations. Sorry, I know others will disagree but if you want to get jacked, you are going to have to blast.

What is your goal level? Sorry I am just trying to learn as much as I can. So you would be at 600 if you took 150mg, and so do you take 200 to get to 1,000? I know it’s individual, sorry again just get confused with all this.

That's the tricky part, everybody responds differently. It's a lot of trial and error and checking blood work. Making small changes here and there until you find out what works best for you. You and I could have drastically different levels on the same dose. And the level is really just a marker for me. The total t doesn't mean one thing or another. It just lets me know how I should respond based on how I've responded to that level in the past.

Okay I will look into blasting. If I do this, would I have to come down to 150 like prescribed and stay there forever? I just want some kind of gains. I am sore all the time. I feel like I have permanent doms. My weights go up and have increased a lot but when I look in the mirror I look like a little girl.

My brother in Christ.....get your nutrition and training sorted out first. It doesn't even sound like you have a good foundation and you want to blast? Good luck either way and read up whatever you can. Or hire somebody who knows what they are doing like i already suggested.

No worries man you're trying to learn something new. 160 personally puts me at 600. 240 is my TRT dose that puts me at 950. When I was at 450 it was 1600. Those numbers don't mean much except as a place marker that I know how I respond at those levels. I know guys that grow like weeds on less than me level wise. I don't have a goal level and those are just examples. My doses won't be the same for you

I’m sorry if I upset you? I have my training and diet in check which is why I’m here. You don’t have to be mean damn

not being mean bro. just telling you what you need to hear. Your diet is NOT dialed in if you want to get jacked, which is what you claim. You said in your OP you haven't made gains in 3 years. 155 pounds. That is not dialed in. I'm sorry if that's mean but sometimes you have to hear the truth.
