Laugh if you want but I grew up in the suburbs. My das was all state in 3 traditional sports in HS in a state with a bunch of negros. Deep south and after integration. So they all got along and were buddies. Not a small school either. But my father was small in stature. I’m saying all this to illustrate my dad was a pretty bad ass athlete. Fast, quick, instinctual and could jump out the gym.

So that’s cool and all right!? I sure have benefited from his genetics a ton. But one thing he lacked, and in turn myself too, because he was a gym rat we never grew up hunting or fucking with building cars and shit. Don’t get me wrong, I fished my brains out. Like every fuckin day my ass was fishing. But no hunting or mechanical stuff.

Fast forward 30 years. I want a motorcycle. I only have one vehicle and it literally gets 6-7mpg. I’m looking at Harleys and Indians. Used. I have no idea what I’m doing or what I should be looking for. And I don’t wanna sound extra clown-like asking the salesman. Please inform me on what to look for so ii can save some embarrassment please.

my dream or an early 70s harley----

You still been looking? There’s a lot of things to consider. If you’re going to get something you’ll be commuting on a lot, I would get something more comfy. Would you ever like to go off-road, or will it only pavement? Have you ever been in any car accidents? Are you a thrill chaser? Do you have a family of your own? Are you ready to spend another several hundred to a thousand on riding gear after buying the bike?

Have you ever even got on a motorcycle? If not it’s probably not the safest choice

Indians are much much more reliable.
I have a Harley and to just put tires on the fucker is over a grand.
Every year I need a new set of tires. Its a fuckin money racket, I barely get 5k miles outta both tires and they're Dunlop's

I just picked up a R1 Thursday. I also have a zx10r and a MV Agusta Superveloce 800. Motorcycles are a blast. I only use my car or truck if it's raining. My next one is going to be a bagger to cruise on.

harleys are the best---but first bike try an old honda or something, much lighter and easier to ride then when you get used to it go from there! my last bike was in 80s and was a 77 honda 750 k easy as hell to ride--only reason i never ended up with a harley is epilepsy

They’re definitely big risks. I used to have one, and while it was fun, I decided to get rid of it and stick to dirt bikes. You can be a super great rider, do everything right, have all the PPE, but still can be easily killed by someone else doing something stupid.

I love riding, but with my family in mind I am sticking to off road.

Ever think of using a car tire for the rear tire? My dad used to do that. It worked surprisingly well.

I watch a YouTube channel where the guy buys diff motorcycles and tests them

Most recently he bought a bootleg Ninja type bike off Amazon for like 2-3 k and then he traveled several hundred miles in the snow on it.

Kid ended up loving the bike and giving it a good review.

I always look on Facebook Marketplace at the used ones...I still want an older 2000-2015 Hyabusa in royal blue

I'm smart enough not to buy it bc I know I will likely die riding it bc I always push the envelope on a motorcycle. I'm safer without it, but I do love Rice 🚀 Rockets

It is as wide!!!!!! lol

Plus I cant help myself from doing smokey burnouts isn't that what the 120R motor is good for...lol

Now I'm hearing HD has a 143Ci 140hp motor. Maybe my 120R will blow up this spring :)

Get something like this, easy on and off road.
Nice one! I had a DRZ400. It was a beast. The torque was awesome. A lot of people bitch that they’re too slow, but it ain’t made for going fast.

My 1st love of Motorcycles came from racing Motocross when I was a kid,
Then it was/is the Tree darts (Crotch rockets).. I still love the shit outta them bikes, but a 300# guy looks stupid on a ricer.
I've had several ricers, the fastest one was my 2002 Honda CBR959RR
(basically the fire blade) With pipes and tune...... Motoworld had clocked a stock CBR959 at a 164mph top speed. I got that bitch up to 170 and let off, it had more.
Would it beat a Busa?

Not on top end !!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of those little China bikes do actually end up being pretty good!

I’m a Harley guy my self. Personally I would start on a sporty. They are light as fuck and very easy to maneuver and learn on. I actually miss mine. I have a 24 road glide now but man do I miss my sporty

Definitely good idea to start on something small. Heavy bikes can definitely be daunting if you’re new.

Dude needs a Honda Rebel :ROFLMAO:
My buddy started on a grom and ended up regretting it lol he bought it new for like 5k and wanted to get rid of it within 2 months 😂 I was like “ see ya dumbass u could of bought a used sporty for that 5k, now look at ya. U look gay on that grom AND your out 5k “

Same boat. Had a traumatic incident, suffered a loss of the rider next to me, because another driver was texting. I stick to track days now.
