How many of you guys manage people in your job everyday?

Whats your biggest struggle?

What do you enjoy about it?

As for me, managing people can be extremely rewarding as you see them grow and develop to further their career. One of the many downsides is that people bring their personal struggles to work and I’ve seen it ultimately cost them their job.

Let’s hear your perspective on this topic.

Dealing with the individual issues/tendencies/personalities that need to be factored when managing. People respond to all sorts of different things and as a manager you must know how to bring out the best in them while having them know that you will come down on their ass when required. Never get too buddy/buddy in a management position. You need that distance to be objective in the day-to-day operation in which respect is always number one.

I’m finding the buddy buddy thing to be pretty difficult since getting my promotion to Forman . I’m taking over the crew I’ve been on for 2 years. We’re a pretty tight crew but it is a challange now because of the new roll.

That was the first lesson I learned way back in the day. You need to keep that distance IMO. People get too comfortable and you as the person in charge will suffer from it.

Yep….it called Fraternization which I learned many years ago in the Marines.

Oh i feel for you..you just have to put a foot in some ass.that friend buddy shit they will play to there advantage, but you have to hear from higher ups,
Shit rolls downhill, remember

Biggest struggle:staying humble
Enjoy about it: im ambitious so i just want to keep climbing the ladder.

I over see drilling operations. My main job is to over see the wellbore. But I also have to help look after the men on the drill site. Younger generation definitely seems to need a little more attention than what we did.

But safety standards have came a long ways since ive started in the industry.

I have done. And from both sides.

Usually, from a 'manager' side I just let them get on with it. That team often had more time in than I did

From a 'do as your told' with the public side I'm all in in recent years (just before 2019 was the last time). I was very much 'I don't care... but you ARE fkin off'.
