I’m a 44-year-old ex-football player. My coach, who has been competing for over 15 years, finally convinced me to pursue bodybuilding. In high school, I won second place in my first bodybuilding competition. However, around that time, I was the leading rusher in my state for football and dismissed the idea of bodybuilding “Yeah, fuck that.”
I’ve always been hesitant about bodybuilding because, as a younger athlete, I had a coach who burned me out during my prep season. This experience left me with a negative impression of coaches. As a result, I only worked out sporadically and eventually fell into depression.
We all experience depression at some point in our lives. Anyway, my friend and coach told me to stop being so lazy and to show him how much I could gain after a cut and then mass build me back up the right way. I can easily put on weight. Before I sought a coach, I weighed 265 pounds and dropped to 235 pounds. I sat there for a while, then I caught a stomach bug and dropped to 215 pounds in just four days. That was terrifying.
After that setback, I managed to regain my weight to 235 pounds within three weeks. I was feeling great and was going heavy with hack squats when I ended up injuring my back. That’s when I decided to get a coach and commit fully to bodybuilding and see what I could truly achieve.
He told me that I was probably too big for men’s physique and suggested that we focus on growing me for a classic physique. So, here we go… head down and let’s enjoy this journey together, as far as I’m concerned.
