2.2. Metformin inhibits PRT‐induced gains in total lean mass and thigh muscle mass; metformin trends toward inhibiting strength gains

The article is making me reconsider using Metformin. Ahh shucks and I just bought 180 tabs....

It lowers IGF-1, so yea I dropped the stuff yrs ago once I heard that.
Bodybuilder cringe at the thought of lowering IGF-1.
I had posted a thread in here somewhere where I told peeps not to run Metformin
Now for anti ageing purposes, it does have its place.

Of course anyone taking HGH will probably have no problems over coming the small amount of IGF-1 that is lowered. And i believe that study uses natural people and not enhanced athletes, which would make a huge difference i would think. Most guys i have talked to that have been in the game for years think the benifits far out weight the little growth then may not be achieved. But that is all a personal decision we all make.

I have been stuck in a plateau awhile. Going to keep other PEDs/routine constant just removing the Metformin. That might help me decide long term.

i got put on this shit today. A1c 6.4. And drug I can use instead for diabetes ?

The studies on metformin are on fat people with diabetes. The impact will be minimal on an enhanced lifter. It was Jay Cutlers go-to, he didn’t like insulin I think he did alright..

I prefer it over insulin. Gotta be careful with studies that are done on fatso’s. Also I believe it lowers systemic igf-1 and not igf inside the muscle cell. I could be wrong on the last part, but I have a clear memory of reading it on my last deep dive into it, I’ll check back later on that. In my opinion dropping it will hinder your gains. Insulin is the most anabolic hormone in the body, metformin makes you very sensitive to insulin.

Just for clarification on the highlighted for newbs: Insulin "promotes" a growth environment as it's the key to unlock/open the cell for the infusion of nutrients (glucose/amino acids) which drives protein synthesis. It's not necessarily the insulin that is anabolic, but rather the nutrients.

If you are taking exogenous growth, especially moderate to higher dosages, you will not be "significantly" effected by the impact of metformin on IGF-1. Regardless, I'm not of a fan of it. :)

Won't say any names... cough cough... but more than one person here whose opinion i hold high leans towards berberine and I actually listened for a change. 🤷 Berberine can actually increase IGF-1.

Very good point and way you need to factor in to the study’s l.

Nah, not when you supplement exogenous testosterone and HGH. Just up the dose 🤣

That’s the bad part not on HGH. Was going to start but want A1C lower. Then I can. How bout high dose test say 800-1000mg a week ?

What if instead of metformin took IGF-1 itself. Cause it can lower suger case in point increlex.

But if you take HGH turns to IGF-1 in liver does not work out and increases insulin resistance.

Never understood that.

My A1C is perfect on HGH at 6ius a day but I take 500mg metformin sustained release. I think the igf1 conversion from HGH is superior to synthetic igf1. Just my opinion. You don’t need 800mg test to overcome any testosterone reduction from metformin. I would think even 100mg test cyp per week would more than compensate. I don’t like testosterone over 600mg. It messes with my nipples.

Me to use an Anti estrogen but currently 700mg test Cyp x. Was throwing out numbers to off set the mettform.

The study was your referring was probally with normal overweight. Would love to know all numbers effected.

How many mg in vial you get on your HGH?

There are plenty of studies in non obese people. Not sure where that came from.
I didn’t post it. Just agreed that fats people tend to have lower test levels compared to less body fat.But fat people tend to have lower testosterone levels.
