So my kids are all suddenly wanting tattoos. I have something like 50 so it’s hard for me to say no so I was wondering how everyone else feels about them and kids. Did you guys set an age limit? None of mine are 18 yet and are still in school. Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

well luckily unluckily i didnt get any tattoos until i was 35+. so i just tell them when youre married with kids and a job you can get a tattoo like me.
they arent really interested however.

my daughter hates my tattoos and my wifes tattoos. when I first got it she busted out in tears lol.

Well, being kind of old, my opinion might be outdated, but FWIW, not unit they are 18 at least. My line of thought is, most kids just jump to fast and then maybe regret later on. How old are they exactly? Gives them time to think about it.

My Son waited till he was USMC, so basically 18-19 has a few, I’ve never heard him say he’s sorry for getting them, my Daughter has just one and wished she never got it.

although i would recommend you keep an open and honest dialog about it with them so they dont sneak out and get some chicken scratch stupid ass tattoo.
id much rather go with them, help them find a good artist, and pay a good price for something that will look good then have them get something that fucking sucks.

Well my thoughts were maybe we can do it together for the first time or two and they have to work to pay for it. They all do anyway but still $400 bucks isn’t easy for them to come by. I’m hoping that at least with me there they will get something worthwhile and not a knee jerk decision like 50% of mine. I don’t know actually wtf to do. Thanks everyone for the opinions. The more the merrier.

I’m tattooed head to toe. My first tattoo was my high school girlfriend’s initials that I did with a tattoo machine made from a cassette deck. My second tattoo was a black square covering those initials up when I met my next girlfriend. Also did that one with a homemade tattoo machine. Electric toothbrush based this time.

I say make them wait. Until they’re 18 and have their own money and their own bills they have to weigh that against. And have to find a job that may or may not be tattoo friendly

yea if they are dead set this is the best choice by far.

I’ve got American trad patchwork sleeves on both my legs. I’m not against tattoos- I will however influence my kid to get a tattoo when their brain is fully developed haha. I know a handful of folk who regret the work they got done in their late teens/early twenties.

I got my cherry popped in a strangers apartment in East Berlin when i had turned 30. 3 years later my legs are covered. Went full send and my legs look absolutely sick. I get comments daily. Had I done this when I was in my early 20s I’d probably have a lot of regrets. Just my two cents

Man I wouldn’t change being a Dad for anything in this world but this shit ain’t easy. If I say no I’m an asshole. If I say yes I’m an asshole. If I compromise I’m a weak ass Dad. wtf. I love the little fuckers though. Just wish they came with a playbook. Lol

I called being a dad, my boys are 22 & 24 now & thank me for the things i did when they were young & thought i was dick head!

Too young, they can't afford them, and absolutely none for girls. Saying no is loving your children. Show them videos of people who regret getting tattoos and of having them lasered off instead.

There's a reason you can't legally drink alcohol until 21. Having 50 tattoos should instill some wisdom in them.

when your 18, but I would also ask what they want to do in life, sometimes tattoos are ok as a professional but would you want your lawyer tatted up or your physician? just sayn

Tattoos when I was a kid.

I don’t want it to happen but I’m not one to talk as I’m covered.

It’s more acceptable today in the work force etc. so that being the case go for it 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just don’t go face, neck, head or hands incase you need to cover it up for something lol

I love all the tough guys that have face, neck, and hand tattoos and not a single tattoo anywhere else.

By “tough guy” I meant crackheads. I see a lot of crackheads

I saw “kids and ink” and immediately pictured that scene from “that’s my boy” where the dude takes off his shirt and he has a whole back piece from when we was like 8 and it was all warped from him growing up 😂.

I think best approach is go with them to a legit place and do it the “right” way. A lot of friends have garbage garage tattoos and I know a couple kids from high school that wound up with horrendous infections from doing it at a friends house cuz their parents were excessively anti tattoo

I’ve met people whose first tattoo covers the entirety of their neck- what the fuck!
My first tattoo was when I was 10 maybe 11. Older kid down the street hooked me up It’s actually not bad considering. Lol

Aint no way back then I would get one that showed all the time. I had to hide that shit. I came home with my ears pierced one day and the motherfucker shot me in the side of the head and took part of my ear. Can’t imagine what he would have done over a tattoo. lol

Never been big into tattoos, i do have a couple, the amount of money and time some put into this makes it like a hobby or past time, some like with all the face tattoos doit bcus of mainstream or to look tough, its there defense mechanism, just my opinion.
To each is own.i have scars.war wounds,im good w that, prefer to spends or save money elsewhere,
My daughter has few ridiculous tatts,i said something in the beginning, fuunny enough yrs later i was right and she regrets them.smh

I was t allowed until I was 18. I personally think that’s a good call because if they get something they regret it’s on them. If u have to sign paper work because there under 18 and they end up hating it down the road u might feel partially responsible.

This is probably gonna be my approach. All my kids are super mature for their age and all have little part time jobs. To be totally honest they actually all appear to be normal regular kids that have morals and goals. Don’t ask me how. Lol

I think I’m gonna tell the girls it has to be small and either on their foot or ankle and the boy will have to be shoulder maybe. Somewhere that can be covered and won’t get in the way of bigger ones in the future.

I got a stupid armband around my upper arm years ago and it’s in the fucking way constantly.

Anyway they know they have to pay and it has to be under $300 bucks maybe.

Oh and it’s gotta be done with me there and by the artist of my choosing AND of course their mother has to approve. I’m not even going there. No way I’m gonna be that Dad and get shit for doing something behind her back. She hates me as it is. Lol

Anyway that’s my thoughts and thank you to everyone that responded. It’s much easier listening to 20 other dads before making a rash decision on my own. I never trust myself. Couple weeks ago I forgot where I was going and where I lived. It’s probably not the best idea for me to NOT ask for opinions. So anyway yeah thanks gentlemen. (And I use that term extremely loosely here) lol
