MCT oil is derived from palm kernel oil, alongside coconut oil. Both oils naturally contain medium-chain fatty acids that are extracted and isolated through a heating and separation process called fractionation. Production and ComparisonSource distinction: Palm kernel oil comes from the seed of the oil palm fruit, whereas regular palm oil comes from the fleshy outer fruit. Only palm kernel oil is used for MCT extraction.
Chemical identity: Once refined, the final medium-chain triglycerides (caprylic and capric acids) are chemically identical whether they originate from coconuts or palm kernels.
