Guys over 50? Protocols?

SB Labs
My journey into steroids happened after I was 50 years old. I don’t go super hard-core because I’m not gonna be going on stage nor am I gonna try and get up to 250+ pounds. I’m grateful I can do it with some money and some regard for my health. I can get all the ancillaries I need to make sure I’m not destroying my blood pressure, etc.

Lotta bodybuilders, especially young are penniless and literally can’t afford all that you need to do to stay on top of the health markers. I’m kind of glad I started late. I don’t have to worry about hair or my fertility.

I am 61, started training 23 months ago. So I don't have all the joint issues some guys have from years of lifting. 5"7 Stated out 235 lbs 45% BF (130 lbs lean mass, 105 lbs fat). Today sitting at 168 lbs, (152.4 lbs lean mass, 14 lbs fat) for 9.3% BF. Profile Pic was from end of a Test/NPP cycle last summer, before the water dropped off.

I never thought I would get to 3 plates Bench at this age, but yesterday did Hammer Strength bench 4 x 290, so I am getting close. Been on TRT for over 7 years. I wasted the first 5 years doing nothing. I train 6 days week, Push, Leg Pull and do 5 miles (1 hour 15 minutes) fasted zone 2 walk on the ground 4 days week (none on Leg Day). I am retired so I have lots of time.

Last 23 month, Tirzepitide, 4 cycles and dialed in diet and rest, no alcohol (I miss my beer, I made it and drank it). Start next cycle next Thursday. 350 Test/350 DMB 10 weeks, then 300 Test 450 Mast, with Var last 6 to 8 weeks. First cycle was 500 test, with 8 weeks var at the end, I was hooked. I do bloods every 4 to 5 weeks on cycle and get a Dexa every 60 days. I don't aromatize at all, never had to take an AI. On cruise at 130mg my Total test is 1509 and free is 74, with E3 of 17.5

Respect bro..,get after it.

Good thoughts man. Thanks for chiming in.

Over 50. Lost a ton of weight naturally since November of last year, worked out hard with military style workout for three months with only wolverine. Got down to 200 (from almost 250) and started the gym and TrT. Slowed down the pace of weight loss mainly because my job is security, bouncing and police training coming soon (don't want to get too small). Three months later my first tests are perfect 850 test, 160 free, and down to 191. Now im planning a first cycle with test and Anavar and headed to a body building show in 90 days. I have never felt better since my 20s. I take 200TestC, 5-10 cialis (20s on the way), DHEA, Animal Pak (has liver support), Creatine.

Turned 50 in March. I train harder now then I ever have but I think having a home gym helps with that. I have minor lower back issues so no barbell squats and right shoulder has some minor issues so I avoid flat barbell bench. I mostly stick to pec deck, cable flys and dumbbell presses. For legs I do the leg press machine, leg extensions, leg curls and belt squat. Cycles are pretty mild, test, mast and I have ran test, deca. Next cycle Im thinking of doing test, primo and deca. Im 6" 1' and 2 1/2 years ago I was a 280lb fat ass (mostly beer gut), started doing some light workouts at home, quit drinking and started trt. Now Im 205lbs and about 14% bf.

Good stuff…keep pushing.

I’m 43. Been training for over 15+ years. Have some shows under my belt as well.

You guys that are older and have been in this game for a long time how after 43 when did you really see a difference in training, recovery and just it being hard to gain, train hard, etc

I’m right on that doorstep and for some already passed that point but I’m not throwing in the towel yet. I still have life left.

50…IMO...but it highly depends on what your compound use is. If you run moderate doses of Test year round, you can mitigate the age factor. If you run GH, this can be a game changer in how you feel, recover, etc. my two cents

I'm 50 and haven't noticed a decline in training or recovery yet. Everything needs to be dialed in though.

I’m right on that doorstep and for some already passed that point but I’m not throwing in the towel yet. I still have life . As your preferences for certain exercise change and then you go back to things you haven’t been doing for a while. You notice that you have to start lighter and it takes a bit longer to get up to snuff.
One thing I noticed as I rotate through certain exercises It takes more time to get back to par.

Let’s say I’ve been taking a break from flat bench. If after several months I go back to it, I can’t just jump in where I left off. That’s one thing I noticed.

After 57 things shifted dramatically. Seven years later they have shifted again. There aren't many 70+ year olds doing heavy squats, deads and benches. Reps go up. Training frequency goes down, diet gets even tighter. Cycles get much more conservative. Most of my joints are banged up at this point. Periodization is something else that shifts. most of us downsize. Cardio is prioritized. Stretching is a massive advantage.
These are facts!!
Forget about PRs,how much weight ur pushing.
Minimal gear if not just low trt dose and few is gh for overall wellness.
Shit defiantly changes creeping up in age!
Althoygh you can still train hard, cardio become a must!
We may be older gents but most can still run circles around younger cats who think they are hitting it haaaaard!!😁
Ps 60 in few months actually in best shape of my life!
Don't see that changing anytime soon!!

I will preface this by saying if you aren't suffering from residual effects from a previous devastating injury there really should be no difference in the way you train at 40 or 60 especially if on TRT or enhanced. In fact, I often find people using age as an excuse in training hard.

Intensity is something that can always be pushed while if you need more recovery as you age or lower some weight that is fine, but that doesn't affect the way you train. There are risks at any age for doing 1RM and such but in bodybuilding especially guys that KNOW how to train, can stay as safe as possible. As long as recovery is there, all is good. Now if you have crap form, don't eat well and have a stupid split that's different.

In my experience, many older guys train just as hard if not harder than younger ones. The mentality is different and they can push themselves harder. I turned 50 this year and train harder than I ever have. I'm not special, there is just no reason not to.

Go online and see 80+ year old women doing 1-3RM Deadlifts.

Again, if you have injuries THAT is different. If you don't, don't be a pussy.
You old motor boatin' sonofabitch all this time I thought you were a youngin'... respect. 💪

I train harder now than ever. I get off on it. I kinda like people walking wide around me in the gym again, like they did when I was young. My daughters come with me at times and they get a kick out of seeing how people react to me after a good pump just going gonze on the iron all swollen and "mogging the weight room" as they say LOL.

But I do it for my therapy more than anything it releases me mentally and physically and so therefor really also sort of "spiritually". For me at least. It keeps me off anti depressants and away from too much booze and too much "crap" in general. Training hard and often, and resting when needed, fire me up but in a weird way, they keep me grounded and chill me out. Allowing me to make better overall life choices in other areas. In the back of my mind I'm always thinking "that would really fuck up your hard workout today" where as 10 years ago I would not have even cared and would have slammed beers again the next night, or eating a dozen donuts after a pizza and so on.

I also train early AM most days now, where I could not and did not when young. This leads me to feeling like I have "extra time" towards end of my day.For example I work a little longer and later in the day at times when I'm in our offices (I work in office at times, remotely, via state side and intrntl travel, a bit of it all kinda nice) , knowing all I really need to do is go home, cook, eat, chill, sleep. A little of "he's in his office later again" can go a long way with the big wiggs and I'm positive it has helped me push to next levels professionally, as well.

Great advice and shares fellas, keep on pushin ya old farts! 💪

Turn 55 next month. I try and keep it heavy and 6rm on main lift, 12rm on ancillary lift, but I notice a bad weekend of fun and my strength plummets until i get back on course. I also notice, microloading works great but once i hit a new PR for a few weeks, i have a huge correction and need to deload.

I'm on a PPL and miss my bro-split and working on a hybrid right now.

Also, on TRT and starting to consider HGH. I wont give in to age easily.

Look into some Wolverine peptide that will help the pain (as in make it go away if done right) and also your stomach biome.

Actually, I had a bad elbow issue for a while that would not go away. Did the BPC157 and TB500 and its like 99% better. For my back, I recently purchased a reverse hyper and man, that is helpong for sure. Tried the BPC in the shoulder and it didnt do anything, might try again with a better source but the cortisone injection sure did help.

At 61, I am one who started late. I did lift for a year or 2 in my early 20's though. Anyway, talk about working harder, I am in the Gym 6 days a week. Push, Leg, Pull. 5 miles of zone 2 cardio 4 days a week(street work, no treadmill for me) I have been going to the gym for 23 months (my 2 year anniversary is August 20th). I see a bunch of younger and middle aged guys over the last 2 years make ZERO progress. Maybe they aren't going for hypertrophy, I don't know. But many are still fat. Wasting the work they do with a poor diet is my guess. Probably still drinking and Not sleeping.

A year ago my wife got tired of me going to the gym and not being around for a couple of hours each day so she joined me. That has been awesome, she is almost the same weight as when we were in High School 45 years ago, but she has more muscle now. 😄

How much cardio are you doing? I’ll assume diet is on point? Genetics for cholesterol? Are you currently using any AI’s? No alcohol or drugs? You are currently off cycle correct? When was your last cycle and did you use any orals? There has to be a reason for a sudden jump.
