Classic debate.
.223 OR .308
Situation: invaded by an armed force perhaps another overseas military. Internet and communications are no longer in function, you have to hunt for food and raid for supplies.
You already have a stockpile of 5,000 rounds of either caliber.
Possible encounters included black bears and wild cats as well as other hostile survivors.
And go.

I'd personally take the 308 if we're talking mag fed vs mag fed. I think the .308 would give more versatility with range and knock down. It's definitely heavier and tougher to carry as much ammo but it's what I'd take.

.223, lighter, can carry more ammo, unless you need some serious long range shots .223 will do just fine. Not to mention The availability of ammo will be much more abundant for .223 as it is such a widely used round, so once you run out it shouldn't be hard to acquire more. As far as taking down large game, sure a .308 will get the job done easier. But give me a full mag and my AR and I am confident I can take that bear out too haha. Sure both have their place. But if I had to pick just one, I say 5.56 all day.

I thought this was a steroid forum ? People are complaining about weight it really isn't that much heavier and 20 vs 30 round magazine doesn't really matter it doesn't take long to change a magazine.

True, but if you know you will be out for a while and take an abundance of ammo with you considering all of the extra gear.. Take in mind being quick and stealthy with the other outside factors it will most likely make a difference

.22 LR. For packing lots of ammo. Ever pack 500 rounds of 5.56? No thanks!

That said I have a ton of both hahaha.

.308 is my fav caliber but damn the .223 AR is fun to shoot.

I had a Sig 516 .223, Springfield M1A 308, SW MP15-22.....They all have their own purposes. But the best time I've had was shooting the M1A at 500 yards at tannerite LOL

5.56 all day. Because when the shit hits the fan you will find ammo a whole lot easier.
But I love my AR-10 for hunting purposes.

Arsenal AK-47, then you take ammo, clips gun parts off the casualties. If we are ever invaded on American soil they will be caring ak's. Plus I get 1000 rounds of new production ammo delivered to my door for 250.00.

I do have both guns you mentioned but if I chose only one ak hands down.

My buddy has a really nice old school SR25. He showed it to me the other day. I had no idea what I was looking at but it was bad ass. The thing is equipped with this massive long range scope. He called the scope a Mach 4 or some shit.

223 is better for battle, you dont need to kill the enemy, wounding them can slow a whole team down now they have wounded people to address. 308 is better for hunting

So that's what the Canadians shoot?

.223 to hunt and assault with. A .308 gets heavy really quickly and in most cases you only have 20 rounds in a mag. If I were defending a strongpoint then I'd go with an AR10.

My SR25 is the nicest rifle I own by far. Mk 4 by Leupold is a nice optic, I have mine with a Steiner M5Xi 3-15 and a Knight's suppressor. My holy grail gun.
