Damn, thats a goal.
Anavar worked GREAT during my cut and YES my strength remained.I recently asked about running a low dose of Anavar for 4–6 weeks while I’m cutting, and I got lit up on Reddit for it. They basically told me Anavar would do absolutely nothing for me during a cut and that I should just keep dropping weight and wait for a bulk.
For context, I’m 5'11", around 173 lbs, roughly 16% body fat. I’m down about 30 lbs so far with the help of a GLP (Retatrutide), and I’m on TRT at 200 mg a week. My plan has always been to cut to around 15% before adding anything else, and that plan still stands.
What threw me off is I always understood Anavar to be something people use during a cut specifically to help hold onto strength and lean tissue — not for fat loss itself. I’m not expecting it to magically burn fat; I was looking at it strictly for performance support while calories are lower.
So my question is — am I totally off base here? Is Anavar actually pointless at this stage unless you’re already shredded? Or did Reddit just dismiss the idea without understanding the goal?
I’m open to being wrong. I just want a real answer from people who’ve actually used it, not internet one-liners.
My goal has always been the "feel" so to speak. Just to add some strength.there seems to be competing points of view in this thread so far, those being a "how will it make you LOOK" (cosmetics) and a "how will it make you FEEL" (strength/pump/endurance) viewpoint. Obviously, the cosmetic side of it will be negligible because of the layer of body fat that still exists. But the other point of view? I dunno![]()
That's my whole goal going to the gym, to be strong and look good. Why does being stronger matter to you?
Two entirely different things, although they can co-exist. No one can see your strength outside the gym. Everyone can view your appearance. That's my whole goal going to the gym, to be strong and look good.
Right, they can co-exist. That's the goal. I know I won't always be strong at times or not look fluffy at times. Two entirely different things, although they can co-exist. No one can see your strength outside the gym. Everyone can view your appearance.

The anavar was just a question about adding something that can give me an edge while not being "strong".
You, like most people today, have been led to believe that steroids are the answer. They simply are not. EVERYTHING else you do is what will produce the results you seek.Right, they can co-exist. That's the goal. I know I won't always be strong at times or not look fluffy at times.

I completely agree. But it will come back when you go back to a neutral or positive energy balance, why not grit your teeth and look to maintain your strength best you can (good indication of preserving muscle) while you finish your diet phase? 200-300 test should be enough to put above natural ranges, if you are losing a lot of strength, I’d look into your nutrition and recovery first rather than chems

That's fine. But we all all here for a reason. You, like most people today, have been led to believe that steroids are the answer. They simply are not. EVERYTHING else you do is what will produce the results you seek.
Just focus on the 95% of this game and forget about drugs. Until you need them anyway.
