is there really a difference in the experience of drinking whiskey, if you drop a few regular standard refrigerator ice cubes in that will melt quicker but I think that improves the flavor. I think the biggest difference would be in the water used to make ice

Freeze the whiskey into ice cubes and then add those.

I used to like Whiskey, Makers mark was the common one I would buy. Problem is you get drunk quick and it gives you ED. Not worth it imo.
 
I dont drink whiskey any more but I still use round cubes for everything I pour over ice, so yes the difference is night and day to me... as a matter of act I just bought some new ones last week off amazon

I’m a retired bourbon drinker and there’s only one way to get that clear cube. It’s not a mold or special water it’s more than that. It’s pure physics.
Take a 6 pack cooler and snap the top off and toss it. Put 4” of water from your fridge filter in the cooler. Set the cooler in the freezer overnight. Take it out and run a little water in it to loosen the block. Tip it over and the block comes out. Only the top 2” will be ice the bottom is water that didn’t freeze, it’s messy use the sink. What you’re left with is a crystal clear block of ice that you can slice into cubes with your wife’s bread knife. All the minerals and impurities that makes cubes cloudy is pushed out of solution as the water freezes top down.

I drank a boat load of bourbon with these cubes.

when I get the good stuff its to enjoy the flavor, warbringer is extra smokey is the bomb, cheap stuff is to get get drunk
 
I’m that nerd that if I want to dilute a high proof 125+ proof I’ll use a water dropper 🫣but for cocktails those large cubes work better as they last longer for multiple drinks lol.

Yeah I def had those. I honestly over time just enjoyed the flavor a bit more of room temp vs chilled so haven't used them in awhile. Might have to revisit though.

I think one of the main problems I have with hard alcohol is the heartburn
 
What the point in a clear ice ball?

I use them because they keep my drinks cold so me they don’t melt mess as fast as a cube

Not to mention the best way to drink whiskey is and old fashioned 🥃

I used crushed orange meat a cherry and that slight peel of the orange rind. Don’t recall what that’s process is but that was my goto drink for years

As much as I loved drinking and I loved drinking a while lot haha

I guess it comes down to weather you want ice to melt fast or slow in releation to how much water gets added. I do like the old fashion, sidecars are my goto. When I was younger vodaka tonics were my drink

I think you made an interesting point about freezing your own ice and it is more pure, would you consider it to be the same as distilled water in a large ice tray?
 
if you drink good quality whiskey and put a splash of water in it the smell of the smoke from the barrels is amazing, I can tell who really drinks good whiskey verses cheap stuff

As I said I don’t drink anymore but let it be known, I didn’t drink for the taste of whiskey I drank to get whiskey glasses and I was a professional at getting them on😎
