I too had an Italian Greyhound, by far the best dog I’ve ever had. Smarter than most humans, and extremely fast. This was my wolf hybrid.
5% wolf/20% chihuahua/70% meerkat/5% rat
Actually an Italian greyhound.
She was the best of every dog I have ever had. Sofia.
I named her after Francis Ford Coppola’s daughter, who is a dog.

They are special. They don't belong in cold or wet climates. Mine thrived in Cabo. Two of mine, including Oliie, were resues. People buy them because they are cute, unusual and a novelty. Then the reality of them pissing in the house makes them end up in rescues or worse, shelters, where these people have no idea how to deal with them.Oddly I agree with the “condescending and being cunt like” remark. I have also seen it in regard to these dogs growing up. Definitely not me either, I grew up poor and I believe my old man got ours from the pound. What a TD for us it was. Perfect dog all around. I’m surprised I don’t see more of them around. Not very popular and I’m not sure why.
Cute puppyFinally got a full frontal view of our soon to be dog.

Oh man it’s so wild you say that about the cold/wet climate-upstate NY. I remember how pissed off my mother would get “what kind of dog wont go to the bathroom in the rain”? I can hear it as clear as day, and she said it non stop. Hailey the IG would tip toe in the snow like her feet were broken. I was young then and not educated about that breed, and neither were my parents. Then she would piss in the house. Haha. Fucking annoying. But everything you said is so true. As far as the teeth cleaning I dont think most dog owners do this yearly, yet very important to do. To each their own i suppose. They are special. They don't belong in cold or wet climates. The will not respond to negative reinforcement or punishment and it has an opposite effect. Mine had a self-shaming that if I just gave them "a look", they knew they did something wrong.
I used to come home and one would be sitting on the stairs with a look saying "Uh, you are going to find something upstairs. I am not proud of it but...there it is." So yelling and beating it wouldn't have accomplished anything.
I trained my female to piss in the shower in our downstairs bathroom when we were house training her. We had a doggy door which she used all the time but when it was raining, I would see her go to the door, look out at the rain, look over at me, then take the long way around the house to sneak into the bathroom to piss in the shower.
They, like most sight hounds, require annual teeth cleanings, which can be $1,000. Most people neglect this. It is $15 in Mexico so our dogs got their teeth cleaned. Still, all had extractions every couple of years regardless.
IGs are a special dog for people that are willing to do what it takes.
When we were still in Kommieforrnia, I used to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home parrots. I had a greenhouse with parrots flying around. I got to deal with all of the bad habits from their previous owners. I spent thousands on vet bills doing this. Sometimes my "rescue" involved paying for the birds just to get them out of a store or home where they didn't belong.
I also did reptile rescue at my expense. Lots and lots of rattlesnake calls.
I suppose you have seen the videos of them doing hand stand walking in the snow so as to not get their feet wet? And the teeth cleaning is $150us in Mexico. I have not, I’ll google it. Im sure it’s pretty funny. Haha your typing is just fine -i understood everything you have wrote. Mexcio has a lot of excellent prices with everything. Sorry for your losses.I’m a dog guy. Always have been. I’ve avoided this thread until today, though, as we put one of ours down just last month. Three in the last four years. Just takes a minute to get over it - or my AI is bunk
We’re down to one at the moment, a 2 year old charcoal lab named Goose. Best temperament, best behaved and well trained dog we’ve had (we put a ton of work in and he’s responded incredibly well - just a great, great pooch) - except for a slipper and shoe fetish, but he just takes them and sleeps next to them and doesn’t ever chew, so not the worst thing.
Losing three in 4 years has left a divot all the same. We’re going to just foster for a bit, I think, although our kids (adults) are all convinced we’ll have a couple more in short order
Still, glad I scrolled through. Dogs are my favorite people (as most people, well, kinda suck imo). And dog people are my fave actual people
Crap - for some reason, I can’t post pics atm (Tapatalk won’t let me sign in). I’ll post a few of our most recent dogs when I get to my ‘puter. Labs and a Great Pyrenees (the Pyr was a medical foster turned foster fail who was a special - if flat out insane - dog)

I lost one a few.months back and yes it's bad. And you're right. The love you get from them makes it worth it.Thanks man. It’s part of the deal, and you know it’s coming, but it does suck
That said, our pup is currently napping on my legs on the couch, so it’s worth it

Putting down our last of four in a four year span is why we have gone four years without a dog. Really hard to get going again, but here we are making plans to go pick him up in six weeks or so.Thanks man. It’s part of the deal, and you know it’s coming, but it does suck
