You are absolutely right, in the even of a crisis, it will devaluate everything. People will only spend money on necessary things, no one will invest, buy collectibles, etc. Moreover, people will start withdrawing money that they previously invested for two reasons, because all investments go down and because they need money right now. In such situation, you need to think carefully about where you can invest money (if you have such opportunity), which resources will still be in demand, or shares of which companies will not suffer, and maybe even win. (for example the bloom of all types of courier delivery, online sales, online services such as zoom, with the arrival of covid)If....and this is a BIG if...we are buying with the thought process that the world economy will implode...wouldn't "collectibles" tank in price accordingly? Theoretically, there would be less disposable income for purchasing collectible items.
On the flip side, if it's just investing and things will continue to rock and roll, then yeah it makes sense. But even if you get 100 oz and it goes up $5, you've only made $500. Don't get me wrong, that's better than banks are paying right now by a long shot. Safer investments have smaller rewards (not profound, I know).
