Reta and blood sugar

I have labs from February 6 and I started Reta February 22nd.

I’ll have labs pulled again on May 8 so almost 11 weeks in at that point.

Downside is I was crazy sick with rotovirus 2 days before my blood draw so my inflammation markers were crazy high and my cholesterol and triglycerides were all fucked (HDL and LDL tanked and triglycerides were up) so my next draw won’t really give a good indicator of what Reta does for inflammation and cholesterol unfortunately.

But my glucose was 89, my insulin was 9.1 and my “estimated average glucose” was 95.

Using my BGM and CGM my blood sugar has been in the low 80s most mornings and has consistently dropped into the 70s throughout the day. I’ve even gone as low as 65 a few times when I’m really avoiding carbs and doing a lot of cardio. I’m 6 weeks in at this point.

On a side note, the ONLY time my blood sugar has gone over 115 since starting Reta was when I was hypo (65) and I ate 4 glucose tabs (20g carbs) plus a cup of full sugar OJ (34g carbs). It hit 123 and then was at 80 within 5 minutes.

my pre workout of 50g of Karbolyn and my PWO of 50g from cream of rice don’t even get me past 110

My fasted glucose levels have stayed constant pre & post reta. I started at 2mg for first month and titrated up to 4mg split M-Thurs where I remain.

Nov 2024: 83 (Pre-Reta)
Feb 2026: 82 (Week 1 Reta)
Apr 2026: 82 (Week 10 Reta)

These results are from my recent blood panels. I should do some post carb/meal tests with my glucometer to see how things spike but I haven't felt the need to keep an eye on it since everything has been good with my panels.

How did you get over rotovirus? Curious cause I had or probably still have adenovirus that's messed with all my hormones and big issue is my bloodsugar that I can't control. Leaving me fatigued after eating. Not sure how much reta will help. Honestly I don't like any glps cause I'm lean and don't like stuff to lose weight. Tried lantus etc but can't get dose right that works cause have plenty of that tresiba. Never got sick but nasal, lung, digestive issues and possible light stroke one night. Awhile back I was feeling good but I was using higher dose iodine and liraglutide.

I just shit my brains out for like 6 hours and then tried to hydrate while sleeping the day away the next day. It was gone within 3 days. My gf and her kids all got sick one right after another then I got sick last. Wasn’t anything particularly special to get better. My gf had it worst with shitting her brains out on day 1 then throwing up day 2 and another 2 days of not being able to eat or drink much of anything.

The thing with Reta (and even tirz) is that you don’t just get the glp1. Tirz and Reta have the GIP which improves insulin sensitivity and nutrient partitioning. In fact a lot of people I know also use Reta to recomp or even bulk. I’ve been finding I can get away with eating a lot more without gaining fat while controlling my BG (I wear a CGM and while its usually high by about 10 points, it is normally around 85-110 all day with the peaks being around meals and quickly going back down.

I actually went hypo yesterday. Had about 75g of carbs between breakfast and snack then worked a 8 hour shift with only a protein bar and a shake…

Felt like shit about 30 minutes after the protein shake when I got home from work and my blood sugar was 57. Literally ate the entire tube of glucose tabs (10) then chugged a Gatorade and had a protein bar and about 4 servings of cheez its lol. Blood sugar got up to 143 and was back down to 115 about 2 minutes later when I checked it. I’m sitting at roughly 13% bodyfat now and tried 2.5mg of Reta this past Wednesday and will most likely go back down to 2mg and ride it there till the wheels fall off. Even with all those carbs plus about 450g of short grain sticky rice for dinner and a few slices of Ezekiel cinnamon toast, I still woke up at 177.8 this morning. Weight actually dropped after several days of being bloated and sitting at 180ish.
