Pre-workout powder recalled nationwide due to illegal ingredient: FDA
Posted: Oct 8, 2026 / 09:21 AM EDT
(WJW) — A pre-workout dietary supplement is being recalled nationwide after it was found to contain an ingredient the U.S. Food and Drug Administration declared illegal more than a decade ago.
According to the recall alert listed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Leader Formulas of Texas is voluntarily recalling one lot of RAPTURE Pre-workout, a dietary supplement powder, because it was found to contain 1,3-Dimethylamylamine (DMAA).
According to the FDA, DMAA-containing products marketed as dietary supplements are illegal and their marketing violates the law. The recall warns that using DMAA can result in elevated blood pressure and could lead to cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, shortness of breath and tightening of the chest.
“The issue was discovered in the product during testing by the FDA. Leader Formulas, LLC. is notifying its distributors and customers by mail and is arranging for return of all recalled products,” states the recall alert. “Consumers who have purchased the RAPTURE Preworkout products which are being recalled should stop using the products and return to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
The recalled product was distributed nationwide to retail stores and sold online through the company website between Jan. 29, 2025, and May 25, 2026.
Here’s what consumers should check for:
So far, Leader Formulas has said the company has not received any reports of health concerns related to the recall.
According to the Department of Defense, DMAA has been illegal in dietary supplements since 2013, but many dietary supplement products that contain (or at least claim to contain) DMAA are still available for sale.
