If you had a teenager that was getting some pretty bad acne, what is the best course of action? Here's some thoughts:

1. Accutane- would only do a low dose but still worried about it.
2. Nizoral shampoo used twice daily on face
3. Here is a crazy one, but what do you think about a little AI to maybe stop some of the estrogen?

What other supps, procedures, washes, etc have you had luck with, but would be safe for a teen boy?

Thanks

I think first course of action should be benzoyl peroxide. Can do the body wash scrub or a topical you just leave on face. tons of evidence it's effective for mild to moderate acne.

Next is a topical retinoid, these have been made otc recently and are very effective against moderate to severe acne. I've used differin (adapalene) and it works great.

I would go with either of these (or both) over the nizoral.

Accutane like you mentioned is the nuclear option. Discuss that with a doctor and the pros and cons. Personally I just wish I ran a heavy duty cycle or two of accutane when I was a teenager instead of just continually dealing with this shit into my 20s and 30s.

In terms of dietary supps zinc is the most important mineral and can be helpful. try 10mg a day is plenty.

The complicating factor regarding pinning down what's causing it is really difficult and different individual to individual. some people it's environmental/hygiene. others it's dietary. In a teenager it's similar to bodybuilders, it's most likely just his hormones fluctuating too much so washing his bedsheets and taking more showers is unlikely to do shit

Pantothenic acid
L-carnitine

you may need to increase the dosages to get max results right off the start, then its great For maintenance once you get it under control lower the dosages

Together, they lower excess oil (sebum) production, shrink clogged pores, minimizing the source of acne
