Just alittle glimpse for everyone that was envious of our nice warm southern weather back when you were catching the blizzard. Southern weather is one sweet girl in the winter, but she's a real nasty hateful bitch in the summer. .

I worked outside in this heat all week, and drinking 2-3 gallons of water everyday is barely enough to keep up. For all my southern brothers, stay safe in this heat.

Working outside in the summer time is no joke, I’ve had one ambulance ride in my lifetime over it. I don’t plan on letting it happen ever again.

You have to take frequent sun naps. When you get to hot, your body will let you know when it's time to turn off. Get you a quick sun nap for 30-45 seconds and you can make it on through the day. Sometimes if it's real bad, you may need two or three.

I definitely didn’t do it that day. I was in a rush and didn’t want to stop what I was doing, two bags of iv bloodwork and a urine test I was out the door with a clean bill of health. Lucky me, these Carolina summers aren’t a joke.

Jimmy I’m sure you know this already but some others may not… daily electrolytes are vital for hydration, water alone won’t cut it
Great point and good opportunity for a discussion because I'm sure there are mixed views on this. I do understand the importance and I am also a believer in getting electrolytes from food and not sugar water sports drinks. I'm anti-sports drinks. Of course I've also spent the last 10 Carolina summers outside all day so I also have a different perspective.

They have the world convinced that grandma walking 30 minutes on a Air conditioned treadmill, or your 60 minute workout, needs 82g of sugar water with 2k mg of sodium or she will dehydrate and die when the truth is that if grandma eats a normal diet, she already has more than enough sodium, potassium, and magnesium to sustain her for a few days.

... and who is the biggest promoter of "electrolytes?" The makers of the sports drinks.

I always love the "I cut grass for 45 minutes outside so I need to replace my electrolytes. Get me a Gatorade. " Yeah, and you also ate McDonalds for lunch with a sodium content of 4k mg which is also enough sodium to last you for 2 days doing roofing work in the South. Drink some water and you'll be fine.

Sports drinks marketing has distorted the truth about electrolytes. Gatorade dont care about anything other than selling more Gatorade.

What that map doesn't show is the 85% humidity. I live in the desert and I spent 6 hours outside yesterday in 100 degrees heat shoveling rock but it was only 10% humidity. My hats off to yall that work in the thick, wet air.

Yes, hot as hell. I’m outside working as well. Wearing my old fart wide brim
and keeping hydrated. Just water for me.

Yeah, thats the terrible part of it. The body's cooling system doesnt work. Clothes drenched and nothing dries evaporates. Gotta peel your pants off. 🤣

We have to wear FR clothes and they do not breath, I can feel sweat running down my legs and get salt stains on my work boots from sweating through them.
Usually have a guy or two call off because they got sick from the heat the day before. Lot's of them don't realize that hydration for your work day starts the night before, and that doesn't mean a six pack lol.

Ah hell, screw the FR. Been there done that. Dunno how strict they are where you work, uniform or not, but Baker Gas sells a bunch of FR clothing that's alot cooler. Bakergas.com they have the best prices on FR stuff.

... but i know some companies are strict on the style clothing and arc ratings. Places I worked were chemical so I actually wasnt working in panels. Just basic Cat 2. Still alittle extra hot though.

They arent too strict about it, the shirts I get are pretty thin like a quality cotton t-shirt, the pants arent bad. Most of our clothing is from Bulwark or Ariat.

I use Dr Bergs electrolytes, balanced out with Celtic salt

I didn’t condone any sports drink or especially any sugar drinks so I’m not really tracking your reply

Btw, what’s the first thing a hospital give you when you’re dehydrated? Have food poisoning? Having a stroke? Heart attack?
Yep, saline solution, let that sink in…

I’ve worked and lived in the sun all my life most of that in Texas so I’m used to heat as well

Stay hydrated brother

You just have to acclimate to it. I’ve been an outdoor worker beast for most of my life. Had to tone it way down in volume and intensity since 45 though. Mainly because of the beating my poor body has already sustained.

But yes, hard labor in the Deep South in summer will separate the men from the boys.

Well im down by Gulf of America, its been feel like temps over a 100,the humidity down hear is ridiculous, its 4 am,im outside drinking coffee i will be sweating soon..I wake up everyday with glass of water with Himalayan salt in it..Definitely need to stay hydrated.

100% Agree. I also think we could probably all agree that the "average" person lives in a state of borderline dehydration. I don't know many outside of the fitness community that drink a sufficient amount of water, including my own wife amd her Mello Yellows. 🤦‍♂️🤣

I haven't seen Dr. Bergs before but have used similar. I have also used Pedialyte. Same concept.
