Not superficial at all, it is completely human to want to feel comfortable in your own appearance. But that shift you are describing where the older you get the less you give a shit is genuinely liberating. When exploring men hairstyles most men who finally commit to the shaved look say they spent years stressing over it and then one day just did it and never looked back. Owning it completely hits different than managing it. When you are ready you will know.
