GLP could raise testosterone

"Tracked" men aged 18 to 65. Nothing was controlled, which means it could be related to dozens of other factors, especially when weight loss alone often inherently increases above. Will need randomized human control trials in the future. Will certainly follow future studies. Interesting hypothesis.

Well said. I agree any individual observational study is useless for inference. I think when they start becoming important is when we have so many of them that we can do meta analysis, with the argument being that idiosyncrasies that bias individual studies are uncorrelated across all observations (obviously not always true but when N gets really large it usually is).

I did a quick search in my works reference library and was surprised how many studies we actually have on this topic. There's about a dozen. The two important ones would be a meta analysis Effects of glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists on testicular dysfunction: A systematic review and meta-analysis - PubMed that pools them and shows the effect described in the OP. There's ~4 RCTs as far as I can tell but usually it's TRT vs. GLP and they are small samples. For example Jensterle 2019 finds:
TRT: +5.9 ± 7.2 nmol/L
Liraglutide: +2.6 ± 3.5 nmol/L
and the difference between the two groups is not statistically significant. I put them all into AI to summarize. Bottom line was it said the evidence is suggestive but not high quality enough to be definitive, which is pretty much what Ketchup said. I can post the summaries or studies if anyone cares.

I would be more interested in knowing the mechanism, the obvious one is that curing metabolic syndrome and going from 400lbs to 200lbs raises testosterone (no shit), which is what fearsome said. But we can't rule out something else going on as well. I do think this is a nice argument for the people who argue GLPs are unhealthy in morbidly obese people because they cause muscle wasting lol.

Done being a gay annoying nerd for now

Probably has to do with diabetic issues. Not sure why liraglutide is never talked about i liked that more than any of them. Daily dose and thought about getting more but only a couple people carry it

@celrin321 You hit the most important word “significant.” Even if it did raise testosterone levels it would be at such a level it’s insignificant in any practical manner.

Embrace the inner nerd!

Only posted this for some content and discussion. I value everyone's opinion and appreciate the responses

Nah dude its super interesting and I'm glad you posted it.

Like Bolan and the other posts pointed out the application to serious bodybuilding probably doesn't matter.

But I can guarantee everyone who posts in this thread have close friends and family who ask them for advice regarding medications like GLP1s and nutrition and turning their life around to get in shape, and for that this is potentially a really good data point.
