We all have different tastes in music and that’s cool. Over the years, I keep going back and consistently listening to the same groups. Music is a temporary escape for me throughout the day.

As for me, my favorites have always been these two bands:

Fates Warning
Iron Maiden

Good taste! Yeah that's about all I can do for country too. Some new stuff is good but it's few and far between. Sturgill Simpson comes to mind as someone modern worth listening to.

Yeah country chicks are hot for sure. Best part about going to a country show
I'm definitely more of a metal head but will listen to other things if they are sonically appealing and well done.

Oh man. So many genres and styles within those genres that's an impossible task to pick one. Rock, jazz, blues, country, metal, classical etc. Now rap and opera? I can appreciate the talents but not my cup of tea. I will say this, @ldog I can't tell you the last time I remember someone mentioning Fates Warning. Used to be one of my favorite bands hands down. The older stuff like Awaken the Guardian to Perfect Symmetry and No Exit. Haven't kept up with their newer stuff in years. Their vocalists were always top rung and underrated. Great mention. I was always a guitar nut so names like Jason Becker, Tony MacAlpine, Steve Vai, Tony Fredianelli, Vinny Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Greg Howe, etc. Too many to list.

I’ve even come across some Sirius XM radio reviews while looking for good ways to discover music, and it reminded me how many great bands are still out there to rediscover. For me, it’s hard to narrow it down to just two, but I definitely understand the feeling. There are certain bands you can keep coming back to no matter how much time passes, and they always seem to hit the same way. Fates Warning and Iron Maiden are both excellent choices. I tend to gravitate toward bands with strong melodies, memorable guitar work, and albums that still sound great years later. Music really is one of the best ways to switch off from everything for a while.
