Flex Wheeler Calls Bodybuilders Drug Addicts — I Agree

you dont want this tim meadows GIF

Makes sense to me. Oddly enough I’m currently watching old John Meadows 21 reasons why you’re not growing playlist. I’ve trained more like a powerlifter and athlete for the last 5 years and wanted to revisit how to actually GROW muscle.

Love watching old Mountain Dog's videos. Good stuff.

I tend to agree. It is a bit frustrating because I believe that people are going to get the industry looked at more which is never good.
People taking mega doses thinking they need grams to grow or this peptide or that peptide. Yet they are not consistent with diet nor training and end up sick or dead. I don’t consider the person who bodybuilding is their lifestyle as such tho, maybe that’s my own denial.

Be real interesting to find out just how many on here uttered these words to themselves “I’m just gonna try one cycle, and that’s it!” 🤣 😢

Interesting, I guess I made it 59 years without being a drug addict. My doctor put me on trt in my early '50s and of course I did nothing with it for 6 or 7 years. I do read about a bunch of guys on here with body dysmorphia, I'm the opposite. I don't hate the way I look. I love the way I look.

This just another example of a bodybuilder from yesterday, throwing dirt at at a sport that he is no longer relevant in, because he can no longer extract anything from it. We have a few recurring themes in bodybuilding:

- Bodybuilders of the past minimizing the accomplishments of bodybuilders today, because they feel their legacies are threatened.

- Bodybuilders of the past turning against the sport altogether, usually because they didn’t get the placements they wanted, even if they were the placements they deserved

- Bodybuilders of the past either downplaying their gear use or exaggerating what they actually had to do to get to those physiques.

Long story short, take anything someone who retired 20 years with a grain of salt. And I don’t care that it’s Flex Wheeler. His name doesn’t preclude him from being swayed by ego.

You know, it’s one thing for someone who has trained naturally for years to use gear.

And these kids jumping on cycle at 20 years old.

But I can’t say that when I was in my twenties I didn’t want to try them, I just couldn’t get them.

I didn’t use gear until I was 42. I had already trained naturally and knew my body. PR bench of 335.

Now I see kids at the gym on gear. Not even training smart letting the gear do most of the work.

Massive over generalization. This fucking game everybody always elbowing ppl or doing insults just for the strut.

On the other hand, I am sick of every 17yr old broccoli head at my gym looking like they on a gram of tren. And if another guy vapes a weed pen in the locker room I’m gonna report him.

I think you can turn this lifestyle into a net positive. Am I a drug addict? Maybe. I am an addict like I am an addict to training, diet and vitamin supplements. Are those of us considered addicts if what we use AAS, GH and peptides for is to improve health and well being? I've been training with weights and some sort of athletics or cardio for 50 years. I am apparently very healthy at nearly 65. Then again I could drop dead tomorrow. What will the public judge me if I drop dead at 65... 70.. 75...80 and still was using these protocols I have developed over 1/2 a century?

As the definition of drug addiction seems to be roughly a person that does a drug even if it is negatively impacting his life.
Seems with all the downs sides, side effects from the drugs people are taking in this "sport" etc And all the experimental drugs that people are taking that have no long term data as to their safety, the term addict would fit many/most including myself.

Interesting take.....making some good points.

All those things might be some part of the elders statements but some of it is from watching things evolve over 30, 40, 50 50+ years and giving their perspective. Sometimes our elders have more wisdom, something not developed to the level in the younger as in the elders.

Flex Wheeler was a genetic freak who probably had they best physique in all of bodybuilding history.
Hypocritical of him to call anybody a drug addict because he was a porn addict, strip club addict, alcoholic and a drug addict and ruined his own career.
