note: i dont hate him nor myself enough to watch an entire 70 minute video on the subject. that's insane, but kinda hilarious he did such a poor job.


also this video: after 20 years of blasting grans, with perfect training, diet, and elite genetics, he managed to get 2 reps of bodyweight bench. 1rm on deadlift was 1.5x bodyweight.

I listened to the whole thing at work (machinist).
It not only shows israetel just threw a dissertation together with cut and paste, but also that the whole exercise scientist industry is a lot of bullshit. Israetel's paper was read by other PhDs and teachers and passed as a good paper. They didn't even read it or didn't care that it was junk, if they did read it. They just passed him through. If that's how they pass all of the students, then all of the PhDs are meaningless.
If you're friendly with the teachers, you can just coast through the degree.

I used to like Mike too. After seeing all of his personality problems on display and how he just bullshit his way to a PhD, I can't say that anymore.
 
It's a shame that all the shit coming out about him like this. His older content that was still focused on lifting and getting yourself going in the gym was a big boost to me when I finally decided to get my shit together.

I fell off on him a while back though when all his content just became stupid reaction videos and algorithm trash. Now it's starting to show that he's always been a grifter.
 
I don't hate him, I just find his shtick of calling other people and their methods out kinda lame. And his desperate attempts to constantly be a stand-up comedian usually fall flat.

I agree with you, but I don't follow his coaching shit or anything. I wasn't aware that coaching was even a thing he does. All I see him doing is interviews and trying to be Joe Rogan.
 
I have just recently discovered him and watched a few of his videos on background while eating, as cheap fast food entertainment.

Does he often give bad advice?

From what I've heard he hedges a lot of what he says. Like you generally need to do 8-12 reps 3-4 sets 2-3 times a week, but maybe in your particular case you may need to do more or less.

Haven't heard him say that you 100% need to do this specific exact thing and there is no way around it.
 
I could care less about Mike, but if you’ve ever went to grad school and gotten a PhD, this is not uncommon. People think you get a PhD and your magically an expert on everything in the field. Quite the contrary. You have a lot of knowledge, but it’s scattered and you lack experience in the field so you usually base a lot of your dissertation on what’s already been done. This doesn’t preclude Mike from being lazy, especially with the grammar aspect, but just putting it out there that this is not uncommon. Also, I don’t agree with Mike on a lot of things, but to say he’s an idiot or full of crap is nonsense.
 
Well it is sad that some of the commenters throw the entire field of exercise physiology under the bus because this grifter managed to skate through. As far as Ph. Ds all to commonly being grifters like Israetel, a better measure, than taking this shyster as the golden example, is to looks at the peer reviewed publications put out by your chosen target. If he/she has good publications in good journals then you have located one that is worth his salt. I watched the thesis analysis. Israetel violated just about every thesis standard. I certainly would not hold him out as an example no matter what the many disgruntled commenters left as their stain on the video.

Aside: I can't wait for Greg Doucette to post an analysis of the analysis!

I actually use and pay for the app from his company. I’m also small. Could these two things possibly be related?????? The general principal is progressive overload and training close to failure 90% of the time. I’m probably exposing the fact that I don’t know anything but I thought that for the vast majority of the population that if you progressively overloaded and try to get close to failure on the majority of your lifts that would be good.

Do you have any free advice you’d be willing to share on what I could add to my thought process / gym sessions that can me headed to the next level? Very general question I know but outside of diet, which I know is a big one, what’s maybe one or two things you see consistently with folks that aren’t getting it?

The main thing I feel is control your weight in the gym don't worry about how much weight your putting up but how much the muscle is contracting and watch for your weight to climb with control and contraction

That's what RP preaches, not sure what you are missing. And I say this as non-partial towards them. Could care less. Hate on Mike all you want but let's be honest about the RP method.

Im not disagreeing with the rp method ever sense I started following Nick and Jared I feel like I'm actually growing finally I won't watch Mike I can't stand his personality
