I've arrived. Finally got a good diagnosis of this constant back pain/sciatic nerve issue. MRI to confirm, but the xray was very evident. Arthritis has set in enough to fucking bulge out L4 and L5 putting pressure on those nerves. No wonder physical therapy didn't do much. Anyone here ever have an epidural spinal steroid shot? Used to get em for years in my knees that keep me away from the surgeon for several years. Screwing around with the spine though, no room for fuckery there.

I too have been putting off surgery, I have two ruptured discsI have been getting those injections for the past 10 years., when the pain gets bad enough I schedule the injections, they usually last me somewhere between 10 to 18 months, depending on my activity level

Do NOT get back surgery. They FUCKED me up and I’ve been in a malpractice lawsuit for 4 years now.

Ever since my back surgery I’ve had pins and needles all over my body. I got an artificial disc at the L5-S1 in my lumbar spine, but the doctor didn’t pay attention to the MRIs (should of ordered a CT after certain things were questionable) and didn’t realize I had a bilateral pars fracture. Basically since the surgery the disc has been slowly slipping outward, which is a problem considering essential veins and organs are right in front of it. Now I need this crazy corrective surgery that has a 50% chance at breaking my cock since all the peripheral nerves are in the area where they would need to re enter. I’m putting it off as much as possible and I can’t lift heavy obviously.

Back surgeries are 90% a scam. DO NOT. And I repeat. DO NOT do them unless ABSOLUTELY certain you need it. There’s so many things that arise that these surgeons don’t even think and/or know about

Also - NPP has done wonders for my lumbar back pain. No it isn’t practical to take a 19-nor as you get older, but this has helped. BPC-157 + TB-500 + HGH is being researched for slight disc repair as well. The main issue with the back is blood flow to those areas. Once we get older the blood flow stops back there. I’ve looked into stem cells as well, and those are by far the most promising thing for that area.

As cliche as it sounds, stretching and getting blood back there is absolutely essential as well as making sure your core is overdeveloped and as strong as possible. What a lot of people don’t understand that the core and the lumbar spine go hand in hand, if you have a weak core all that pressure gets put on the lumbar spine and vice versa.

Watched my Dad suffer after they fused some shit in his back. He was never the same. And there is the Dr. Death guy, out of Texas who completely shamed his way out of medical school into Ortho surgery at Baylor where he was basically just randomly fucking up his patients to the point other surgeons wouldn't work with him. What did the medical industry do? Yea, just let him continue to practice at other places for a few years. There was a movie or series about that whack. Thanks.

I have the same problem. L4 L5 S1 . I had the epidural shot which lasted maybe a couple of months then pain came back. I went back this second time and it’s lasted a couple of years now. Only drawback I’m experiencing is I have severe atrophy in my right calf. It’s a problem to me because I can’t train them to grow so nerves are shot. Hope you have better results.

my right calf is fucked from an achilles rupture and i never got the size back, but I will keep a lookout for that. thanks

You could also get an ablation done. They are hit or miss, and again, are more of a bandaid like the shots are.

YEP! ive even had facet joint injections where I nearly flew the fuck off of the table. L4, L5, S1 they injected them all LOL

I have had cortisone injections done under xray between the L4,L5,and S1 it provides temporary relief, but I eventually quit getting them because of the risk of bone softening over time.

Find a good chiropractor with a decompression table. This steroid shot you are talking about is only a temporary relief of pain

In my case it actually caused more issues too, it was good for about 72 hours until the lidocaine wore off.

Some doctors don’t know wtf they’re doing.

i had a nerve issue with my arm years ago and a chiro did some adjustments and it went away. good friend of mine sees one on the regular thanks for that tip.

Definitely what SB says…

Decompression table for a minimum of 12 sessions, but I would do at least 26 sessions. Add normal adjustments, Stim, and Shockwave therapy, if they have one of those machines in their office. Just after about 4-5 decompression sessions, you should notice some relief.

I’ve had 2 back surgeries on L4/L5 S1. Discectomy and Laminectomy. Exact same issues you’re having. Steroid shots did nothing at all for me. @SB Labs hit the nail on the head….I go to the chiropractor once a week and it helps a TON. Keeps me in a good spot. Wish I found him before the surgeries.

Shots didn’t do shit for me I had 4 of em. A lot of people say surgery is a 50/50 shot but it’s the only thing that improved my life and I’m able to be back at it now

The steroid shot is only an anti inflammatory injection. The problem will always return. If surgery is not an option , then the decompression table is a good second choice.

You should be able to avoid surgery, if the discs are still there and just compressed. Decompressing them and allowing the fluid to come back in and surround the discs, will allow them to heal and place them where they’re supposed to be. You will have to go for continuous maintenance treatment, but it beats the hell our of surgery, if you can avoid it.

I had stenosis along with other things for years tried many different treatments . I found the shots an OK stop gap. With their benifits diminishing with each injections. Ended up having a laminectomy with L4-L5 a fusion and a couple rods put in to pull the spine back into line. Everything went well and was back to work and the gym( in a reduced capacity) in a week. Finding a good Dr has always been the key to a good orthopedic surgury. A sports medicine Dr that has pro athletes for clients is a good start as to who to get. Finding a surgeon that knows the right way to diagnose an issue is paramount. I have several bulged and herniated disc now but they cause no issues. Studies that i have seen show half of people with bulged/herniated disc don't even know it and have no pain.

i am interested in that shot --my spine is rotting away and all docs wanna do these days is gimmicks!

Get the epidural shot 11/11 I'll let you all know how it goes
Just saw this thread..... I went through this almost 10 years ago.
They did the cortisone shot in the back, instant relief from the lidocaine
but the 1st shot didn't work. They decided to do another epidural
and that one worked for a long ass time! I had sciatica so bad it ran down my leg and wrapped around the shin down into my foot.
Good luck man, I hope the shot works!!!!

Good luck. My sympathies to anyone with nerve pain. ESI's provide a lot of people with relief, without many drawbacks. It's teh correct first step if you have a significant amount of chronic pain. Did not work for me, and unfortunately seemed to elevate my sciatica from manageable to absolutely intolerable. I have several disc bulge's with one at L4 L5 pressing on my nerve. I have lightening like pain from my left glute tot he my heel. I have been too busy with my wife's health issues, my business and children to properly chart a non-surgical path to recovery. I am fortunate to have found relief from Gabapentin and then Pregabalin. There is a cost, but I am relatively comfortable at the minimum dose available. It's not a long term solution though.
I'm going to start decompression and acupuncture this winter and get serious about McGill's Big-3 exercises. The physician's in my personal life all recommend against surgery. They are friend's and clients, not caregivers. I hope I dont get to the point where surgery is the only option for potential relief. BPC-157, TB-500, GH don't seem to help. I'm always worried it.
Again, good luck and may you have complete relief.

This is a tough thing to go through and I also have my eyes open as I have had early-stage degenerative disk disease diagnosed 6 years ago and I'd figure that I'll be feeling that wall of pain myself soon enough. At least having it monitored every year.
