I have a genuine question. Why has Dbol become more frowned upon recently? I recall that during my childhood, everyone was constantly discussing its use at the beginning of cycles. Do you believe that the influence of YouTube and influencers has led to a significant decline in its popularity over the years? More powerlifters take it from my understanding and it’s not so much in bodybuilding.
The YouTube and influencer era absolutely played a role. TRT-style thinking has become mainstream, and most content now revolves around “dry gains,” lean tissue, and protecting health markers. Compounds like Anavar, Primobolan, and Masteron are constantly praised as being “cleaner” or more sustainable, while Dianabol has been turned into the poster child for what
not to do—labeled as old school, associated with dirty bulks, bloat, and estrogen issues. That doesn’t mean Dbol stopped working; it simply stopped fitting the modern influencer-friendly narrative.
Powerlifters still tend to use Dianabol because their priorities are different. They value increased CNS drive, rapid strength carryover, improved leverage from water retention, and short-term performance boosts going into heavy training or competition, all areas where Dbol excels. Bodybuilders—especially modern ones—are more focused on visual hardness, waist control, conditioning, and long-term joint and overall health management, which makes Dbol less appealing for physique-driven goals.
The mindset was completely different back in the day. If you told people you were running Masteron or Primobolan, you’d get laughed at... those compounds were seen as weak, unnecessary, or “for girls.” The focus back then was on size, strength, and noticeable results, not subtle recomposition or health optimization. What’s considered smart or respectable now has more to do with shifting culture and influencer narratives than any fundamental change in how these drugs actually work.
