Ok so what’s the deal with these dudes I see at the gym that have decent physique’s that still look like they swallowed a beer keg? Don’t get me wrong they still have the hint of abs but it’s like there’s something behind their abs shaped like a half circle. Since they look like they work out should I assume that’s GH gut or is that considered a beer belly? Am I missing something? Does this automatically happen with age maybe?

Visceral Fat. Looks like a ripe melon.

Probably age and they still enjoy training but don’t care about their diet anymore.

Makes sense cause most seem to be in their 50’s maybe. Also I’m in no way picking on these guys. They look great it’s just the belly thing.

That’s a good way to describe it. Lol

What you’re seeing is usually just visceral fat. The deep belly fat around the organs. Even guys with visible abs can have it because the muscles sit on top of the fat. Some people just naturally store fat in their midsection, and things like diet, alcohol, stress, and sleep play a big role. I personally believe it's mostly diet.

It’s not automatically a “GH gut”. That takes years and years of growth hormone abuse to acquire, which equates to a lot of money. Most guys won't invest that much into the sport.

Most muscular guys with a rounded gut just have visceral fat that's hard to get rid of. You can still see their abs because the muscles are strong and defined, even if the Beer Gut sticks out a bit.

Thank you!!! Makes me feel a ton better about aging. Well maybe not if I keep eating 8 cut pizzas for breakfast like today. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

You're r welcome bro. Hormones can play a role, but for most of us here that’s not really the issue. Honestly, just cut the carbs back. If you’re genetically “that guy,” you’re kind of fucked off the rip..

Some guys carry fat in their face, others in their ass. So it could be worse, you could be walking around with a full-on dump truck ass, all the boys hollerin like they’re trying to peel that peach 🍑.

A lot of these dudes probably coasted on good genetics their whole life, but now it’s catching up, and the only way to drop that gut is to actually dial in the diet.

For most of my life I felt like I had a beer gut even though I hardly drank. I was also fat pretty much my whole life.
Even as i've been getting pretty lean, I noticed my stomach was sticking out while having 6 full abs... tbh it bothered me a bit that I only had a flat stomach when I flexed my abs.

Something I noticed is as I got leaner and leaner, the gut distention went away. I can only presume this is a lessening of visceral fat.

So if these folks really wanted to fix the problem, theyd have to get themselves fuckin peeled to correct it. Visceral fat is no joke.

Really appreciate the detailed explanations. I kinda feel stupid but atleast now I know. I guess I’m always so worried about regular fat I forget about the inside stuff.

Poor core control. The idea of it actually being an abundance of visceral fat is very unlikely… unless well their like actually just fat like 30+ bodyfat lol.

Hgh to burn visceral fat, Ab and TVA training to keep your stomach flat. Gets harder as you age especially from pounding food for years trying to grow.

I’m gonna get serious for a min and probably get attacked but I give zero fucks lol.

Why are we body shaming people in the first place?! If they are in the gym achieving their goals, leave them alone. Not everybody can have a six pack and not everybody cares to have one.

As someone who has battled having a “beer” belly even when I weighed 155lbs, had a complex over it, and it pretty much being the same size at 200lbs no matter what I do, i take it kind of offensively.

I had a mod, I assume based off of my profile picture, get butthurt and tell me It looked like I needed to focus more on my training. For one, I’m not a body builder. I work 12hrs a day and get in the gym 4 times a week if I’m lucky. My mom is in bad health and lives with us so I try not to leave my wife with the burden by not living in the gym. Said mod owes me a refund for the Reta I bought after that also 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I guess my point is, everybody has different goals. I’m happy with where I’m at and the little progress that I’m able to make when I can trying to go from dad bod to daddy 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

“Shaming”. These fucking new world terms. Man, it really “triggers” me.

The whole human existence is observing and judging simultaneously since the dawn of time. Accepting people the way they are is the reason for mediocrity today. Accept people for who they are, ok. But accepting things that can be changed, that’s just supporting laziness.

But as for the belly thing, some of it is laziness, some of it is part of aging, some lies in between.
When you hit 40, that visceral fat situation increases. There are metabolic reasons for it. Organs shrink, more fat is required to cushion them. That’s just one reason. I am sure there are many.
I know I didn’t have this issue in my early years but now, even when I am externally peeled before a show, my visceral fat/gut is the last thing to go. Sometimes only in the last two weeks or so.

Some guys have guts because they just say “fuck it” and think that’s just the way you look over 40. Look at women, same thing. If a beer gut doesn’t look good on a 50 year old man, it sure doesn’t look good on a 40 year old woman. But most people seem to think “that’s just the way it is” and don’t do anything about it.
I have people every day make some comment to me about how they “need to get in shape”. I ask them what that means because they already are “a shape”. They need to decide what they want and make a plan to get there.

@AR-15 those people in the gym with guts are taking the first step to be healthy or in shape, they just have completed enough of the puzzle that they are satisfied with.
My gut gets out of control from time to time. It gets harder every day to keep it down. I can have veins across my abs and you can’t “pinch an inch” but my gut still protrudes. It isn’t “GH gut”, an inflamed liver or poor core control. It’s just another part of the aging process. Some people do a good job of fighting it off, especially if they start early. It’s pretty hard to do for someone who only gets in the gym in their 40s, long after letting it get out of control.

I know what you mean. There's this one dude whose fairly jacked but his stomach is just humongous. Makes no sense, idk where to start how to even achieve this build.

What you are doing for your mom is exceptional. If more Americans took care of their aging parents this country would be in a better place.

Often times those who are body shaming are projecting their inner feelings about themselves. Couple that with irresponsible drug use and hormone abuse in those minds and it’s easy to understand why people do this.

Fitness is a personal journey and you have to respect those who take it.

I just learned about "vacuums" from another thread, maybe they don't know about them either. I've been battling my abdominals for a while now. I can see why people would just give up and work on other areas that show results quicker.

The whole purpose of a forum like this is to ask questions, share, and learn. We know we all have different goals, genetics, starting points and experience.

Thank you for this. It’s obvious to me that even with most of my abs showing, and only able to pinch “just an inch” my stomach definately sticks out. You can see in my profile pic. From just at my hip line my low abs angle out. That’s the flat part of the a where it continues down to the attachment point.
I was considering posting a similar thread asking about ‘body type’ like endomorph, ectomorph, mesemorph, and if that’s a real thing. If I lean more into the ENDO spectrum and will just have a wide thick midsection.
When I run my cut next year, I guess we will see.

Stop being a fat ass if this offends you. The phrase body shaming should never come out of a grown man’s mouth

What kind of limp wristed ninny talks like this?
The same one who says “I am not a bodybuilder. I work and can’t live in the gym.”
Lots of these guy in Brokane. They aren’t bodybuilders. They’re “powerlifters”, which is awesome since that apparently requires zero nutritional discipline.
Except for the world class powerlifters I know. They have actual diets.

I trained in a powerlifting gym for a bit with some serious dudes.

The guy who could squat 700, dead 800 and bench 500 wasnt BB stage lean, but would have been able to make a good stage presence in 16 weeks.
All the other serious powerlifters in there were the same.
Even the PL chicks were fairly lean.
