Today is the 17th anniversary of Dime’s murder. I had the pleasure of knowing him from the Ft. Worth/Dallas days in 1983. Nobody touched him when it came to guitar playing but he really shined as a person. He never seemed to understand he was famous and always considered himself just a lucky fan who got to play music for a living. At the peak of Pantera’s fame, Dime waited in line with other fans just to get an autograph from another musician he admired.
I have some pretty funny memories of him saying and doing just about anything for a laugh. He was one of those people who walked into a room, it felt energized, even if you didn’t know or see he was there.
It was a tragic day for many and I am still pissed.
