Lol yep that’s exactly right. Guys would get DUIs and then get put on “restriction”. That meant that they would get escorted around the base all day in a fluorescent vest cleaning bathrooms and garbage and shit like that. They’d make them stay in a special “restriction” barracks room for the entire time, which could be weeks.

In the mean time their family still lives on the base, so the wife and kids are driving by their husband/dad while all of this is going down. It never happened to me but I always thought it would have to be so embarrassing for them and weird for the kids.

Ever heard of the Navy SeaBee's? They are a construction force within the Navy and they attach to the MAGTF during wartime to build bases and do bridging and a bunch of other support roles. They have Builders(BU) Mechanics(CM) Equipment operators(EO) Welders(SW) Plumbers(UT) Electricians(CE) and engineering aids(EA). If I were to do it over I'd be a BU or CE, but welders and plumbers make a great living. I was a mechanic. If I was smart I would have been a Pilot.
