I started cycling around 97...
I was not born with good genetics and grew up under weight..Mainly due to a mother that just couldn't cook for shit..
At 31...I was at 125lbs,tried about everything..
Honestly, now I know it was the fact I knew Nothing about Nutrition or eating properly to gain size..

Fast Forward to Today...
I got to 198.6lbs once..then knocked down hard by C...
I have learned a ton over my decades cycling..and still learning..
Now...
I'm 57..on TRT and do one or two cycles a year..

Lately, many New Guys to the Game are starting to get interested at an older age..

This Thread is for those above 4o thinking about cycling..
Some views and advice to chew on prior to jumping head first into the vast pool of PED's...

First...
Overall Health needs to be addressed..Forty isn't 25 or even 35..Neither is 50..!!
Guys that are 25 and 35 can get away with way more stuff than an older gent..
Do yourself a huge favor and get checked from Head to Head..
I mean Everything..!!
If you are compromised..there's still possibilities, but Not Knowing and moving forward is Reckless and Straight Dumb..!!
Start with Bloodwork..!!!!

Second...
Research for at least 6 months..there's a ton of information to crunch..
Learning about Bloodwork and Estrogen control should be without saying..
But, it's the No.1 problem for most..Young and Old..
Being 57...I train smart..and cycle even smarter..
Somewhere between 40 and 50,natural test levels are going to drop, if not already lower than Normal..
So..the smart path would be to start with TRT..
BUT..Only if you are below the "Normal " range..
Going on TRT will do wonders for you if you're below normal range..!!

Third...
Reasonable Goals..What are you trying to Achieve..??
Mr. Universe is Not on the Table..lol
But,looking better and feeling is..!!
Make some that are reachable..Post your thoughts and Goals for solid feedback..

Forth...
It really is a Lifestyle not a Hobby..Building size beyond 40 is hard work..
Many things to balance..
Keeping Markers in the normal range, A1C,cholesterol, shit this list is Endless..!!
If you can't maintain the Lifestyle...Walk Away Now..!!
Brutal but totally Honest..!!
Why do a cycle or two to go back to drinking like a fish or eating everything insight at Xmas..and loose it All..

Fifth...
Train Smart..Avoid Injuries..!!
Don't get Testosterone Poisoning..Trying to do what the younger guys are doing, just because you feel like you can..That's asking for trouble..!!
Start slow..perfect technique and forget about trying to bench 315..
Slowly increase intensity..
Start with some tried and true methods..like 10 sets of 10 with light weights..
Slow and steady..without Injuries..
Listen to you body..

SIX...
Proper Nutrition...should be No.1...!!
Gains are made in the kitchen..PERIOD..
Whether you're looking to loose or gain..it's the Food..NOT THE GEAR..!!
Often, I read, what gear do I take to loose weight..??
NONE..!!
Same for gaining..it what you're putting in your Mouth..
Gear is like 10% of the Equation..Seriously..!!

Seven...
Recovery..Recovery is usually the weakest of the Three..
Rest Days are just as important as gym days..especially to older guys..Trust Me..
And Recovery is way more than Sleep..
Many articles here about the points of Proper Recovery..
Hell,I've even written a few..

Eight...
Enjoy the Ride..!!!
It's not the Destination...
It's the Journey...
It's all about learning and adapting..finding what works for You..!!
That takes time..a lot of Time..
I'm still figuring things out after decades..

Last on My List...
Listen to the One's that have been in the Game..!!
These fly by Night You Tube sensations are mainly full of shit..trying to make a buck off young bucks and people not knowing better..
The Guys like Wise, Vis,Mont,TG and Heavy...these are the guys I still listen too..
Read some logs..Max's is required reading..!!
These guys know what's up..
They might be a little Raw, but fuck it, they Know..!!
Don't think I don't bounce shit off them even with my time In..
It's just stupid to Not Listen..

I hope this sheds some light..
And,I hope this is useful for Both young and older guys looking to cross over to the Dark Side..

There's Volumes more to Consider..but these are some Fundamentals to Look at Hard..
Before making that decision to Jump..

Great information Z.

I was talking to Reddog about this a while back and he said the same thing. After 40 it really is harder and requires as much or more dedication as it did in our younger years. Twice the effort and dedication to training. Eating is a challenge as our bodies don't metabolize the same and huge amounts of food don't neccesarily yield the best results. It becomes more about quality over quantity. And gear use is different as well. Tolerances change as does our ability to utilize the compounds to their full advantage.

Just using the ones I posted will make a huge difference whether you lift or cycle or not.

Nutritional supplements are a vital component to our diet as we tend to eat without regard to them. You can only get so much out of chicken and rice lol.

Agree Totally..
But, good research and weeding out the "Hype" advertisers trying to sell snake oil..Is the problem there..
Like PRE-WORKOUT mixes..after yrs and yrs, I found anything over $1 a serving usually is 90% bull..
Targets young guys and people wanting a Magic Pill..
Hell,I've fallen for the GNC $100 proteins..
But..not anymore..
Plus I'm poor Now..lol

Pwo powders are typically $4 worth of SHIT, being sold for $40.
Its a great hustle but there is little integrity in the pwo market.

⛔️ Citric acid from Aspergillus niger (black mold)
⛔️ Toxic Dyes
⛔️ Useless Synthetic "vitamins"
⛔️ Cell-killing preservatives

All common ingredients in almost every pwo powder.

I sometimes buy one of the aminos/caffiene versions if its cheap (like under $20) but I dont use it for pwo... 😄 caffiene dehydrates the fuck out of you.

I use it for long drives. 2 scoops of fruity caffiene in a liter of water and a good heavy-metal playlist and I can put a hundred miles down pretty quick. 😎
