I will add this - that pic was take way before I started training again. Sipping has been very limited in the last 6 to 9 months, haven't had a cigar since last fall.

We're men brother, we drink alcohol and smoke shit occasionally, no shame.

I got a purple tele…. A charvel with 81 powered humbuckers. A Jackson dk-2 with a sweet graveyard skull paint job… a mexi strat with Clapton-esque sunburst paint…. A Dillion ovation acoustic/electric. A mix and match drum set with a 1980’s studio Yamaha heads…. A PA system (mix n match) and a Johnson bass guitar …. And about 5 random guitar bodies/ parts that I could build up into at least 3 working guitars….

Let’s do this.

Let’s do this.
I‘d be interested in that Charvel Tele of yours if it is a 80-90s. I had two Model 7s I think they called them, in blue and white. Neither were twangy Tele’s like the original. The only Tele I have now is a custom built Variax transplant with flame Koa top, mahogany body and bird’s eye maple neck. It looks incredible.
The only others I have are my main, a 1990 Charvel 475 Deluxe which I bought new (with Bill Lawrence pups given to me by a well known, deceased guitar player). It was white crackle but had it painted with holographic paint flames many years ago. Looks good under stage lighting but those days are behind me.
I have a 1973 hardtail Strat, a Dean FBD ML from the first pressing that I pre-ordered when Dime was still alive. It’s a case queen. Not even remotely my kind of guitar. The only other is a Chinese Charvel Desolation LP copy I bought for $200 here from a guy so I can one day put the Roland guitar synth I bought from another guy here for $200.

In 2009 I had 27 guitars, some cool ones like an ESP Kamikaze, the American made one of maple that weighed 25lbs, I swear. It’s on a Dokken tribute guy’s channel on youtube now. I had a Jackson Kelly which was a one off desert cammo with super light rosewood fretboard, two Carvin carved tops I had built, a cool American built Wasburn “murder weapon” hand painted by Scott Ian.
Yeah man, I used to be pretty flush. Lol!
Man, I can’t remember them all. But I started racing motorcycles and sold them off for racing funds.
I wish I had a camera phone back then because I’d love to have pics of them all.

I think mostly it is determined perhaps by BPM, the use of distorted guitar tones and direction or feeling of a song.
I am not big on pigeon-holing things and music is no exception. While bands like Slayer and Exodus are undeniably ”hard rock”, they still get further classified as “thrash” or even just “heavy metal”.
It changes though. There was a time that I believed that if you threw in a keyboard, it wasn’t metal. But look at all the keyboards in heavy music today. I find it annoying.
I well remember Scorpions, Saxon and UFO being considered “heavy metal” but that shit sounds like something you listen to whilst sipping tea to me now. I still love it, but compared to most of my playlist, it is pretty fucking mild.
I love the purity of bands like Armored Saint, Great White even Kings-X. Just guitars, drums and vocals. Not over produced crap. It’s funny that bands like Saxon and Accept still put out albums like they did years ago.

My charvel is a strat body style. The telecaster is a fender (made in Mexico)… it’s purple and pretty cool… gives me that buddy holly type feel.

My charvel with the EMG pickups is like a brother to me. It’s solid body so the pinch and natural harmonics are easily accessible and with the EMGs it’s almost like a cheat code. The solid body craftsmanship allows incredible sustain… imagine hitting a pinch harmonic in the middle of a lick effortlessly… now imagine hitting that harmonic and vibrato-ing it for like 20 seconds straight.

My Jackson is pretty cool and good for that 80’s style “glam metal” solo stuff too.

I don’t think I could sell any of them
At this point. I’m so close to pulling the trigger on a garage build…. With a loft for my jam room… if anything, they’ll be beautiful functional decor for my future man cave.

Mine all just are for decor one day. My Dean will go in a shadow box with all my backstage passes from the Pantera glory days. When I ordered it it was because it reminded me of Dime’s D/FW days as that was his primary axe then in the 82-83 era. Oh so lucky to have been alive and a part of that.
Your Charvel sounds like mine. Just so easy to play and get anything out of.
As I mentioned, I have started the attempt to play again. I bought a Spark amp over two years ago and just took it out of the box. I may have to resign myself to not really being able to play going forward. Between my wicked arthritis and my brain not connecting with either hand, I fear any ability has expired. Maybe get it up enough to sit in on one or two songs here with these bands in town.
