Get Shredded!
Curious…

How many of you guys consider yourself preppers?

Do you have an emergency stash of food, water, medicine and other supplies to last for an extended period of time?

I need to improve my longevity but I currently could get by for 30 days.

Nope!

A couple years ago I had a week long earthquake kit but when I moved I trashed it since it was old. I need to buy another one. There's no excuse not to be prepared.

I got ammo and gear to last a year 🙂 but food, water and essentials probably around 30-60 days.

Wifey and I have been discussing some options and looking at some of the online companies.

It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately...

Thinking of budgeting something like $50-100 out of my paychecks to put strictly towards preps.

We did a massive stock up during Covid when it first hit and I am willing to bet half or more of the food is now expired and went bad sadly.

Def need to go through it and restock.
We always like to have extras. Just last year we lost power here for 9 days. I have a portable generator but literally almost all our food went bad and thankfully we had alot of dry foods and stored foods on hand. IT was middle of winter too. So I was outside 2-3x a day putting gas in the thing trying to keep the house warm and kids fed. So I def acknowledge the importance of being prepared even for minor situations like that.

It's it canned food with no dents or signs of swelling it is most likely still good even a few years past expiration 😉

What do you use for water storage? Been trying to think of the best way to do this storage and space wise.

I try to always have 3-4 cases on hand. I buy one every week and open one of the older ones. It's not a long term solution but if I had to not leave my house for 2 weeks it would last.

Water is the toughest problem to solve. A modicum on hand is fine, but filtration is the best path.

Food is easy enough to store. But again, if you’ve got freeze dried food, water is your constraint.

Weapons and ammo management is easy enough but expensive. I have enough to outfit 5 folks with a primary and secondary weapons system. Don’t forget holsters, carry straps.

Fuel is tough. Expensive, doesn’t keep indefinitely and the vehicle you want for worst case scenarios typically are hogs. This is a gap for me.

My new house house will have solar and a 1000 gallon propane tank buried on site. Figure I can hold up and be a gathering point for family.

I have a natural spring on my property. Actually just started the process of tapping into it for drinking water and irrigation for crops. I expect to break ground on an off grid cabin early next year. Just 150 yards away from my current dwelling. Other than that I’m not very prepared at all. No dry food, no canned anything, no extra ammo, no fuel farm.

I will be adding lots of critters to the homestead this spring. Goats, ducks, chickens. But I need to start taking preparedness seriously. It’s kinda expensive being prepared lol

We do chickens and bees, dont hatch our own birds but have the equipment to if needed. 40x25 garden and fruit trees in the works. Pretty good stock of stores and supplies as well, always have to cycle thru so it doesn't go bad. One thing is if you are going to take on new items/stages/animals do so slowly especially if you're looking into animals and gardens as it can get overwhelming. Be sure to research how much feed they'll need. I have always added 10-15% to total cost of keeping animals until we get a system down. Hoping in a year to build a new garage with a butcher shop. At that point we will raise a few pigs and maybe a cow.

Great post ldog! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s input.
For me, I should really get serious about having more backup stuff. Everyone needs more beans and bullets? Right!

Underground bunkers is the future. Gotta get a large (or a string of) generators and run them off bio diesel and then start manufacturing your own bio diesel. You need to build greenhouses or those Peruvian earthen greenhouses (walipini). You need air handlers for underground living. You need to focus on simple living with things that are fairly easy to reproduce. You need a tight knit community that is trustworthy and you’ll need a security management system in place like lookouts etc… you’ll want a community with expertise in various fields. (Agriculture, construction, medical, weapons, automotive, metal working, botany, chemistry) I know what I’m about to say seems really counter productive but if shit really hits the fan and the world goes back to the Stone Age…. A community that operates much like communism or socialism is the first step to rebuilding society … ain’t that some irony? Lol

If we’re talking about a post nuclear type world (like mad max style) you’re going to need a community to survive long enough to rebuild society. And you’ll want to be in a secluded area that’s difficult to get to and that has resources such as running water or lake water…

Or you’ll have to join a group of raiders and play that whole tired authoritarian hierarchy game.

Just get enough guns,
Nope nothing. It's all good though I'll strap up throw my armor on and kick a few doors in.
I had an instructor once talking about prepping. He was asked, “Are you prepared?”

He said “Nope, but I’ll just shoot the namby pamby’s and take all there stuff”

The lifespan of those that think they’re just gonna shoot and steal their way through a post apocalyptic world is very short.

I mean if you get an early jump on the progressive liberals you might have a little success but then again you’re not gonna have much use for gluten free double ended dildos and purple and green hair dye.

Apologies for the rant...but here's my 2 cents worth. I learn from you guys for the training, advice and vitamins for workouts and bodybuilding. I don't know shit about that but I am thankful for being part of this group and being taught. Prepping and setting up a home or bug out location for a disaster, I can help with! If you can figure out your cycles, you can do this too.

I have been off grid since 2005. We prep for every winter. My home is 3,200 sq ft and runs like a regular city home. Harbor Freight gen set, 20 solar panels, Magnum inverter, regular household wiring, 2200 gallons of fresh water storage, radiant heat, fridges, freezers, TV's, computers, iPads, phones, I run my business out of my house...In remote areas like ours, weather is a huge hurdle, but you can beat it if you plan accordingly. After being snowed in for 3 weeks one winter, we started going overboard with the preps. With the current economic and political climate, we insured that we are set for a couple of years, maybe longer if we can conserve and ration. Clean out a closet and add shelves. Stock it with food that you actually like and will eat. Add comfort foods like cookies, candy and fruit roll ups. If you have shitty food or your dehydrated food is a turn off, you have to start over and get something edible, which could be too late. We get enough pasta, canned food, rice, flour, sugar and yeast for a year. RDM, this is is a good start for your 50 or 100 a week idea. Rotate your stocks every week or two with your regular meals. Replace as necessary so your stock is always fresh. That's easy in the current state. Water; get backpack filters for emergency drinking water. Stock up on 3 gallon jugs for filtered / reverse osmosis water and keep 10 (or more) on hand, build a rack to stack them for space saving.

There's a lot more to being prepped than food, water and a few bullets; power systems, heating and cooling, cooking, hygiene, wood stoves, firewood, etc. Alternative living area or rally point. Protection is a huge issue, 1.3 million guns were purchased in February. Every month for years, that has been the norm. People are arming themselves for protection from the government and others in the community. Like Halloween, kids go to the rich homes to get good candy. Thugs will do the same after they've worked over the locals and we have seen that it does not take very long for a group of bad people to ransack a business, stores, homes, etc. You not only need enough guns to arm your Team, you need enough ammo for weeks, maybe months. I know - over kill? And you need more ammo to train. Shooting skills are reduced over time. Practice, practice, practice. Knowing exactly what the gun can do in your hand is a huge benefit. Ldog, you know what I am talking about. Midway USA, Natchez Shooters Supply generally have decent pricing on ammo and availability. It doesn't take long to stock up. More ammo is always better. Stick with NATO calibers for weapons; parts and ammo can be found easier. Guns need to be able to be used like a hammer, shoot and beat the fuck out of them. If they continue to work, it's a good tool. Glock, Sig, S&W, POF America as examples. Spending a little more on a quality gun could be the difference between life and death. Just like gear, get the best, it will perform and you will be happy.

I can keep going...

Anyone with questions you can PM me or I can respond here. I am happy to share my experiences. I don't know it all but will share what I do know.

I stock primarily rice and dry beans. Canned chicken.

Can go awhile rationing off these items.

Not prepped like I want to, but probably never even need it.

If things go sideways…. We’re all fucked.

Maybe you last a little longer, but it won’t last.

Could maybe get out into the woods and live off the land?

Idk.
