They park a cruiser right in front of the main entrance on the curbs where kids enter and stand armed in bullet proof vests watching.

It's a super deterrent.

In the great state of Texas, the shooter walked right past the armed police officer and into the school. The cop watched him walk up and enter, and did nothing! There were a number of deaths after the entire police force and the border patrol flooded the hallways. Not one of the cops were willing to do shit, except for the one officer who was recorded saying that if one of his/hers ( I can't remember the sex of the officer) kids were in the classroom they would have already been in there taking out the shooter.

To think that the upbringing of a person is to make it functional to a society or system is to see a subject as a means to an end, the end is that society or the system prevail by sacrificing individuals and their individual interests.

American society is supposed to have been founded on individualistic ideals, but that is far from the current reality.
