I’m 42, work a career, a bunch of overtime and have two active kids. I never skip a workout and keep diet in an above average range. Meaning I try to eat clean, brown bag lunch, but if I have my kids and decide
To have some pizza, so be it. I also train with a higher intensity at gym.

The other day I was looking at some of these young guys training and realized their focus and intensity level sucked. I was schooled right way by right dudes about training mindset. I mean some of these fools don’t even look like they’re sweating at gym. Maybe it’s the pre workout lol, but I’m usually drenched when I leave gym.

Either way, for being over 40, we are doing a okay in my book.

Now I’m going to go back to thinking of a California steak burrito with Double steak

I'm 44, have a very high level career, VP of a company that has partnerships with every professional sports league (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) and multiple TV/Movie studios. I work constantly and fly roughly 2-3 times a month for meetings.

And yet I train harder and look better than 99% of guys in their 20s. Gen Z and Millennials are a joke. I saw a statistic that said 70% of Gen Z and Millennials rely on their parents for financial assistance. After I graduated college, I spent my first 2 years living in a cockroach infested studio apartment in Hollywood sleeping with a pillow covering my head so the roaches wouldn't get in my mouth. I worked a full time corporate job and 4-5 nights a week working the front door at The Troubadour, a club off the strip.

When I'm hiring new salespeople or customer service reps, I won't even consider anyone under 35. Besides the lack of work ethic, I don't want to deal with the chance of having to worry about some moron preferring to use "they" as a pronoun or telling me he/she is non-binary or asking for a separate bathroom.

I'm guessing the next Generation will be referred to as Gen ZZZ due to the fact they won't want to work at all, just protest and post videos all day.

I remember when I graduated college renting a room for several years. Working in a warehouse as a forklift driver unloading and loading trailers, palletizing boxes, whatever was needed in shipping and receiving. Then 4 night a week I bounced at a top less club in my area. Got in plenty of fights throwing people out for touching the girls. 🤣 it was a simple job and it was fun. Made real good money. The owner was real cool and would let us order food on the house at the end of our shift. He would also give us 1 beer if we wanted. At that point I think I was already sober 10 years. I'm 53 and still banging the weights. I run 1 -2 cycles a year and blast and cruuse. The gym is good anger management therepy. So i dont give the finger to the stupid drivers around here. I'm now in management and behind a computer all the time. If not the computer than phone. So im here a good part of my day

I definitely agree, dude. 42 here also. I see so many guys way younger than me that just look like shit at the gym. I don't know what it is about these young dudes nowadays but they just don't seem very motivated to do anything.

I just came back form the gym. There was this beautiful blond, lean and strong looking but not more than 120 lbs. she was doing stiff leg deads and then went to front squats working up to 165 lbs for sets. Perfect form, working to just about failure. She was out working every guy in the gym probably including my 61 year old ass. the gym is a little upscale and the younger clientele appears to be a lot of spoiled under 30 children. I don't know what the answer is. I would like to know how to add a rough edge to this younger crowd. Seems like it's more common in women these days than men.

I started working at 13 (golf caddy), worked 2 jobs as long as I can remember. I treat overtime as a side job but can live very well off my solid base salary. Why keep working? Simple I want my kids to have it easier than I do

Even watching these younger dudes at gym makes me shake my head. Focus young homies and you may work up a sweat lol

Almost 50, worked a farm at 13... been working ever since. Keep grinding fellas!
I bought a house about 10 years ago with a little bit of land. Over the last 5 years I've been making it into a mini farm. I have rasberries and up and down both sides of the property. some blueberries, a 650 sqft garden and some chickens. It keeps me busy and close to the earth. There is something about working with the earth that grounds us as humans. The way society has gone mentally ill these days, At least I'll have eggs and some fresh veggies and fruit.

I’m 41 and definitely see a different mindset.. but most of the youth nowadays don’t have the earn it mentality they want it handed to them
We need strong parents again and shoot me but mothers in the home would help a lot. Watching a father break his ass at a job and be there on a daily and a mother to make the home and both parents giving the kids good values, that's whats missing. And maybe keep the kids out of these useless college degrees and nonsense liberal brain washing curricula

You gentlemen have all made some very solid points. Much agree on all and I am very happy to be able to talk to some like-minded dudes.

When I see some you you talk about being 61 and still killing it, it gives me fire in the tank. Thanks for being here and sharing what you do. This shit helps me get going on days when I'm busy being a cunt and feeling sorry for myself.

Much love and respect.

You can also use this analogy of these young guys blasting insane amount of gear…they don’t want slow, hard work over the years…everything right now

I had an 18 year old at gym tell me he wants to go from 160 to 200 by December. I’m like do you want to be a tub of lard? That’s only way you’re putting on 40 pounds that quick.

I say you’re 18 right? Imagine adding 3lbs of lean muscle a year. At 28 you’ll be 190 and do it the right way. Young homie looked at me like I had 7 heads lol

Absolutely

Thanks but I can't really kill it anymore. Back and knees are beat up so heavy squats and deads are out these days.

Hey, it’s not like it used to be, but it can be close.

I never took time away from the gym in 45 years of training. (I think I can count twice (a week at a time) in my life for vacations).
Just turned 57 and I hit it hard 5 days a week still. Still benching 355, squatting 495, pulling 500 (200 lb bodyweight).

I live for this odd sub-culture of ours...

I’m 37 and I must say I have been pretty lazy lately.

Those guys busting their ass all day didn’t usually have time (nor the need) to bust their asses in a gym flexing in the mirror either. But that old man farmer strength is real. Lemme tell ya. Some of the most functional practical strength come from those guys. And the wives and mothers had warm dinner waiting for them. Ahh the good ol days. My grandfather was in the house for morning coffee , dinner and falling asleep on the recliner in front of the evening news and that’s it…just to do it all over again the next day.

I’m not saying that we’ve all got it easier than that generation but we all have it easier than that generation. There is pros and cons.

I do feel like my generation of men are way more vain and kinda set to fail when it comes to measuring up to the ww2 to vietnam generations.

Hardened men created good times and good times created fat lazy weak ass millennials and whatever generation comes after them..

Took care of my own home inside and out, relationships, friends, family, job( called in sick 3x in my life and i am retired), commuting, basically never missed a workout for decades at a time, prepped all my own food from my first day in a commercial gym year round never missed a week for over 30 years, ate 6-8 meals a day, planned for my retirement which happened in my 50's, did some competing, did all my own planning dieting training programs, traveled the world some and the list goes on and it never seemed like it was more then i could handle and wouldn't have had it any other way.

Hell ya man! Impressive numbers love it

Hey its not the whole generation, as a 28 year old man its been a rough road for me. I grew up quite poor and started working at 13 under the table doing landscaping work, haven't stopped going since. I spent my whole last year working 60-80 hour weeks as an executive chef, packing tons of meal prep along with me everyday. I spent many nights sleeping in my office and training to compete after my shifts from 1am-3am every night. But, I agree, most people around my age don't seem to really care about much of anything. I suppose my difficult upbringing gave me a different outlook, but I go as hard as I can in everything I do. I don't see that changing until I'm dead

So true brother. One of my younger bro dudes I met at the gym years ago was another example of this. He would come work for me all day long doing hard labor the go straight to his regular job afterwards. He was smart, responsible and reliable way more than I was at his age. You and him are great examples of the exceptions to the rule! Keep pushing on my dude

I was blessed to move in next door to a guy who owns and runs a small cement company. He knows all the good blue collar tradesmen. It's like a throwback to the 70s when tradesmen were pretty much the rule and not the exception. Having a few beers and talking old muscle cars on the week ends with these guys while drinking a few cheap beers is a luxury to me. Doing the little bit of farming that I am doing, I cross paths with local farming community. These people look hard, strong. They can work for 16 hours a day for months and months. I miss that about the 70s.. when I was still a tradesman. Sometimes I feel like I've had 4 or 5 lives.

... Part of the problem is the extent of "online information" and "ease of access." The youth of today have it a lot easier than we did. 20 years ago, you had to find a AAS forum, be accepted, post photos, and move up the ranks before you gained access to reliable sources. Today everything you need is just a few clicks away and 1000x times the amount of information.

Hell, there are YT videos of teenagers boldly going on AAS. They either have no idea what they are doing, or they simply don't care ... with the latter being my guess.
