Which do you personally believe is more important for driving muscle growth?

1. Feeling the movement (mind muscle connection)
2. Using more weight (forcing motor recruitment via increased load)

And why?

*let's assume intensity - or proximity to failure - is kept the same.

Feeling the muscle stretch and contract under a load, controlled movements, slow eccentric, pause/hold the stretch...at least for me, these techniques work better than just tossing around heavy ass weight. Reduces the risk of injury as well.

Can I vote for both? :)
I do believe this is the best option.

Im asking because I struggle with trap movements. They're either heavy and I just stop when I can't pull anymore, or I feel them contract well - but at much higher reps.

ok traps in particular are 1000% weight over feeling. u can just strap up and hold the weight there and theyll grow if its heavy enough

I like filling the muscle with blood first using lighter weight getting the connection then pushing heavy weight! But sometimes certain exercises for heavy loads the connection isn’t required as muchbecause the intended muscles is 100% working

Both, and this is why life is hard

The answer is yes.

For hypertrophy you need weight…if you’re not “feeling” your muscles work then your form is off… if your form is off then your risk of injury is higher. If you injure yourself, you’ll find yourself laid up….and nearly impossible to grow muscles.

I always focus of control and range of motion over weight.

For me I've found best results in this order
First find exercises I feel target muscle activation THAT DON'T HURT OR FEEL AWKWARD
Second grow steadily at those exercises
Third swap exercises every few weeks or months for fresh stimulus or just for fun.

CONTROLLING the weight and mind/body connection/concentration is far more important.

Im not saying that if you can bench 300, that benching 50lbs with control and concentration is going to build more muscle, but if you can rep 300 x 3 sloppy, ... benching 215 x 10 with proper technique, control and concentration def will do way more for you.

Feeling the movement is meaningless. You're either a man or a woman
Ego over effectiveness. Smfh
Is it possible for you to know any LESS about bodybuilding? Or am I just not reading enough e-books?
😄 gtfoh

I was totally like just joshing you bro

Years ago I would have argued all day long that you can’t grow unless you’re packing on more and more weight. That’s how Inwas taught though. More more and more. Force your body to grow by adding weight. Now after like 23 surgeries and 100’s of injuries probably due to lifting heavy and since trying to switch to bodybuilding and watching and learning how all you pussies train I would probably have to say the actual movement is more important. I still grow using lighter weights and in the long run I probably grow more just because I’m not hurting myself as much and I’m in the gym more now than ever before. Just my two cc’s though.

Both.

Feeling the weight but always chasing a heavier load. 💪🏽

I am off steroids for years now, I only use HRT and some OTC suppz and I am about 80% as jacked as I was when I was training mega heavy. I mean even at 220lbs bw i was repping 405 for bench, I was military pressing 315 for reps seated and squatting 600+ for reps.

Now I train with at the highest 50lbs dumbells per hand and squat less then 225lbs for reps. I will do slow controlled and I might take 40lb dumbells per hand and do 60 reps of incline press for instance. And I am nearly as jacked as I was training so heavy all those years.

Muscle Memory? I am sure that is part of it, but I am convinced by all the bodybuilders I have worked with over the years, high reps, time under tension are so underestimated.
I know good friends of mine who trained with 1/3 of the weights I was using and were twice as big as me.

I am convinced there are many ways to skin a cat.

I love training Heavy, well I did. After 4 surgeries - all muscular, I am fine training light now.
