Its easy it comes down to bad PARENTING!!!!! Teach your kids respect for all mankind. Teach them what no means!!!! Teach them that you the parents are in fucking charge and not you goshdam friend WTF. also only way gun control can work is if every single gun was confiscated. How in the hell is that possible!!!!

It is a society thing. I grew up in the 80s when you could walk into a local sports store and come out with AK 47, SKS,and AR15 with a FID card. This was in Massachusetts. No mass shootings near me.

There is nature and nurture.

Our outcome and how we turn out depends on both...sometimes more one then the other.

Nature: You have three kids all grow up with the same parents and in the same house in the same neighborhood. Only one turns out to be a murderer. For that kid, his head was genetically wired to be a certain way. Making some assumptions, his/her environment and parenting wasn't so much an influence on the outcome.

On the nurture side of things, you can take someone who isn't so fucked up in the head, and expose him/her to a lot of bad shit. Abuse in the home, poverty, ..etc. And this effects how he/she CAN turn out. But it isn't a given nor a guarantee that they become a murderer.

IMO you take someone who has a genetic predisposition to be a certain way and combine it with just enough bad nurturing, and you have a fucking problem.

Still, these bad apples should not be the reason why our Bill of Rights are taken away as stated in the 2nd Amendment. Which wasn't to defend against a thief breaking into your home. But to enable our ability to form militia against an oppressive government should it ever occur.

Maybe a few hundred years ago, I had a rifle and some guy in the military had a rifle. Now, you have your arsenal at home but it wouldn't compare to what the military could bring down on you today. Perhaps if every citizen with a shotgun turned on the government all at once maybe they could do it. IDK.

My wife and I were talking about this last night, we had some different view points, hers more logical and mine conspiracy theories that I get kinda obsessed with but we did agree on one thing... back when we were kids there was absolutely no way we or anyone else we knew would even think about doing something so heinous. When our parents were kids they had shotguns in their trucks at school and this also was a non issue. We agreed that this is a problem with society and the way they are raised. It starts at home. When I was young I was more afraid of getting my ass whooped by my mom or dad than I was of going to jail. Shit, slap those cuffs on me and keep me safe from them! If you discipline your children it’s child abuse. If you try and teach them to be competitive it’s too aggressive and shames other kids so everyone gets a trophy. It’s a society of pussies that are never really taught the value of human life and how to be a man. I could go on forever about this but damn this country is fucked up.

That’s another can of worms. Kids get depressed or have ADD and the first thing they want to do is shove pills down their throat. Instead of finding an outlet or having them actually go outside and play, their answer is to medicate. It’s absolutely ludicrous. Adderall is a legal form of meth with similar side effects, which includes depression, paranoia, and a whole list of outrageous things. Did you know that America is the only country that allows pharmaceutical companies to advertise medications? In other countries it’s not allowed, you are not introduced to medications until you are seen by a physician and he deems it necessary. If you get a chance watch “Prescription Thugs” on Netflix, very good documentary.

Well said. I want to know if this kid was on anti depressants🙄

We use mental illness way too much in this country. The reason all of this happens is the continued pussification of boys. Used to when two boys had an argument, they fist fight and it's over. When you are bullied, it sucks. You grow up and get tired of it and kick their ass. It is called becoming a man.

In today's society, we teach to piss and moan about everything. The internet was the single worst thing that was ever invented for the trash of the world. It is the best thing for knowledge, in some ways.

That's why they say testosterone is dropping. Yea, men aren't men anymore. They are brought up on a computer and babied. Gone are the days of riding bikes, exploring, shooting BB guns, etc.

My opinion... society is getting worse. Kids these days have access to everything and anything especially with the internet. Another issue is parents aren’t let’s face it... acting or being productive parents and allowing their children to do whatever it is that they are doing. I’m no old timer but I can definitely speak on when I was going to school and during my teen years... shit was not like this at all

Get Shredded!
Evolution of society...both parents working. Kids being raised by television. Broken homes. Prescription drug access. Un-monitored Internet access. Participation awards. Instant gratification. No respect. Increase violence and hatred in media. Nature vs nurture. It definetley starts at home..........but who has time for that - I’m sure there is a pill for that.

This right here, always a pill for everything. Even if it does cause suicidal ideations, anal leakage, and spontaneous limb dismemberment.

So many good and accurate comments in this thread. I swear my kids are far more afraid of letting me or Mrs. GC down or getting a whipping from either of us than anything their school or society can dish out which is how it should be. Lord knows I'm still in fear (in a good way of my parents). It's sad to see the path we are going down as a country and a lot has to do with our government and pharmaceutical companies. As some one posted earlier we are the only country where the pharma companies can advertise which is just a joke as you then have people self diagnosing and going to the doctor to tell them what they have and what meds they need. What a joke.
While the pharma companies are a problem, we as a society are also a huge part of the problem as we allow them to do this. If enough of us actually cared and stood up for our beliefs we could very easily stop this idiocy. There are over 300 million of us. Can you imagine if even a quarter of us actually stood up and said "No, that's enough. We refuse to accept this any more" and start voting the cowards out of office the first time they attempted to do something for their financial benefit rather than the benefit of the people who put them in office. We desperately need term limits for both houses of congress so we no longer have life long politicians.
We need to get away from being the country that has the highest percentage of incarceration as that along with a host of other things is destroying families through the country which is only worsening the problem. As a country we put over 700 per 100,000 people in jail and most of them for non violent crimes and then of course those numbers are skewed in a nasty way to the poor and minority population.
ughhhh, I could go on and on but I'll stop my ranting for now.

I do wonder what SSRI this kid was on as I would be hard pressed to believe it was nothing seeing that pretty much every one of the school shootings in the last 25 years or so has involved someone on an SSRI.

I'm pretty tired after physical rehab so hopefully that doesn't come off as just some rambling nonsense. I'll come back tomorrow when I'm a bit more rested and see if I can add some more relevant comments regarding the shooting itself.

This is well said. Our society is going through a perfect storm scenario:
Lack of parenting and Father figures in the home
Rampid violence on TV and Games
Political Corruption
Rec drug use at an all time high
Big Pharma relentless attempt to create a drug infused culture(Anti-Depressants)
Lack of morality and respect amongst people

Our country is portrayed as a beacon of hope for the world...what could be more from the truth. It really saddens me.

My two cents rant

I feel like these kids are already socially awkward, home school will most likely exacerbate that. They need discipline, structure, and some good ol fashion iron therapy!

Lol....I'm not sure that's an option at this point. More home school?

I still can't believe that the topic of gun control is considered to be controversial. I've never heard of another country that has an actual issue with school shootings. I've heard people talking about their rights to have guns for self-defense purposes but can someone explain why people from other countries feel safe without shotguns in their houses? Why is this so important to have something so dangerous? Guns are easily bought for people who under no circumstances should have them. Why does this even happen?
because this is America and I can. Don’t worry tho Debbie I don’t just have a shotgun I have 3, 2 assault rifles, and several pistols

It’s really quite simple. #1 we already have 300 million plus guns LEGALLY owned in the country, the number is far higher with illegal guns. #2 We are right next to Mexico which continues to bring in illegal items because of our lack of security on the southern border. #3 We fought against a tyrannical government to make this country and in an effort to make sure that NEVER happens again, we aren’t only allowed to own guns, it is our duty as Americans to understand them and own them.

Gun control won’t work, just like banning drugs hasn’t worked. It’ll make you feel good for a day or two, then when murders don’t stop we are all just fucked. Use your head to think, not your feelings.

I've never heard of another country that has an actual issue with school shootings.
I guess you don't watch the news or haven't bothered to look, then.

https://www.infoplease.com/us/crime/timeline-worldwide-school-and-mass-shootings

and

We reviewed media reports from other countries on the list, looking for any glaring underestimates, overestimates, or other mistakes in the figures and turned up only some minor underestimates. For example, we found four school shootings in Canada, instead of two; three school shootings in France, rather than two; and nine school shootings in Mexico, rather than eight.
However, CNN’s list of “major industrialized nations” countries does not encompass a good many countries where gun violence is extreme, particularlt those in the Central American region. For example, Honduras has the world’s highest gun-related homicide rate in the world, according to data gathered by GunPolicy.org, a research project hosted at the University of Sydney, Australia.
In 2013, Honduras saw 5,630 firearms-related homicides amidst a population of 8.65 million people, while the United States saw 11,208 such homicides that year (almost twice as many) amidst a population of 316 million (approximately 36 times larger). Exact figures are hard to come by, but Agence France-Presse reported in 2017 that school shootings in Honduras “are so common, they are subsumed quickly into the country’s news cycle and barely register outside its borders.”
In El Salvador, which experienced 1,618 gun homicides in 2013 amidst a population of 6.2 million, violent gangs frequently target students and teachers both at school and on their way there.
We also have to consider the lethality of school shootings. Terrorism is rarely a factor in U.S. school shootings, but it often is in school shooting rampages in other parts of the world, particularly Africa and Asia. As CNN themselves noted, some individual school shootings outside the United States have killed many more people than even the deadliest school shootings in American history, but CNN considered only the frequency of such attacks and not the number of victims.
In December 2014, Taliban militants killed 148 people, including 132 schoolchildren, at the Army Public School in Peshawar, Pakistan. And in CNN’s list Kenya is counted as recording only one school shooting between 2009 and 2018, but that April 2015 attackby Al-Shabaab militants on Garissa University College left 148 people dead. By contrast, the deadliest single school shooting in the United States during the same time period was the December 2012 Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, in which a gunman killed 27 people (mostly children) at an elementary school.
